    Wheel Project!!!

I want to go from these:

    to these:

according to rumor on camaroz28.com, painted SS wheels like mine have the machined surface of the 35ths right there underneath paint.

I have always wanted 35th wheels since i bought the car, but theyre expensive and im poor! So I pose these questions:

    -For starters... yay or nay?
-how would i strip the paint?
-should I go with the machined look, or should i polish them to a chrome effect.
-is this a feasible project? I have a lot of patience when it comes to these things, but i dont have another set of wheels to toss on the car when i mess them up.
-anyone ever done anything like this before (involving painting AND metal surface prep)?

id love to hear your input Another option im thinking about is keeping the silver, and just painting on the black accents.

not sure on your wheels. I had a buddy buy a grand prix that the previous owner spray painted the polished stock wheels. My buddy wanted the polished look back so we took laquir thinner and stuff to the wheels and removed all the paint. Looks like stock polished wheels now again. Not sure though about factory painted ones and how those are underneath and all.

I like the wheels you've got now. They help to accentuate the rest of your car. They almost seem to glow! Polishing them would make them seem less apparent.

I'm with Joel on this one. The Black accents on the painted SS wheel will compliment his car and tie everything together.

there was a set 1/2 way done on ls1tech for like 200 bucks... you should just scoop those up, then sell me yours when you're done with the other set

I wouldn't do it personally to a nice set, but since that other guy already started...

I assume your wheels are aluminum? If so then this page should help you out.
http://www.78ta.com/rims.htm It's about 2nd gen rims, but obiviously the majority of it can apply to any aluminum wheel.

There's 2 ways that he takes about doing it. The 2nd way starts about half way down. Yours look like they would be easier than the 2nd gen rims.

I'd say go for it. They'll look really badass.

so is laquir thinner all you used to strip it? (what do you mean my stuff lol)

... the other concern i have is centercaps.

The insides of my rims were junk but the outsides were pristine, here's what i did to fix them.

                          hmm.

im realllllly tempted to give this a shot. if theres not a nice surface underneath awaiting me ill just have to bust out the sandpaper. again, only thing thats kind of scaring me is the centercaps. maybe chrome pieces from SLP would look alright.

how much laquir/thinner did you need for all four wheels?
