black centercaps wont look right... theyll look like they are missing. they need to be at least semi close to matching the wheel. as far as the emblem goes... im not too worried about that, they look fine even without one. that will be easy to figure out later.

As a piece of constructive criticism, the ONLY thing that doesn't pop on your car is the wheels.

I don't know what your budget is, but just this past spring I had my wheels powdercoated (completely), and then the exposed aluminum on the lips/edges machined 0.010 down, and then re-powdercoated in clear. The company I went with can use GM paint codes, so paint match shouldn't be an issue.

...unless of course the car's paint has faded over the years...the wheels look great but are a couple of hues off from where the car is...

I HATE the 35th wheels.....got to be one of the ugliest wheels for a 4th gen....IMO. Yours look nicer than the 35th's, by far. Looks like I am in the minority here

Just a tip, should you decide to try it....laquer thinner will not effectively touch the finish on those wheels. You need something that is just as strong but doesn't evaporate quickly like thinner does. I would try a gel type stripper. Even with that. it's gonna be ALOT of work...it will take SEVERAL coats.

i actually love the wheels i have now, however i agree with what you are saying. They are the one thing that look someone out of coordination... which is why ive wanted the 35ths for forever.

They zapped me for $125 a wheel, but they did turn out nice. Ya just can't find a set of '81 pace car wheels anywhere.

I guess if it was me, I'd save up and get a new set. That way you'll have another set to fall back on in an emergency. Or sell 'em for a few hundred and cut your expense in half.

I have heard a few others in our club state the same about those wheels. I hated them from the first time I ever layed eyes on a pre-production picture of them. They look so cheap....of coarse, this is only my opinion. Gotta do what you want and are happy with That's what hot roddin is all about.

did you look into scooping up that spare set that someone already started? You could even make money since they were like 200, and you could sell yours for more...

well i read some of this thread but skipped over some as well...as far as stripping your rims, you will need a gel like stripper like james (i think it was) suggested. something like "TALL STRIP" aircraft paint stripper or anything of that nature you can find at the hardware store.

another thing is the whole "polishing" part....i found this bit of information while searching around once on polishing factory wheels....if you have factory "high polished" rims, they are polished then clearcoated, so some people strip the clearcoat and polish the rims nice and pretty, but the rims that are PAINTED may have a lot more imperfections under the paint then a set of factory polished ones....because the paint can easily cover up boo-boo's while clearcoat DOES NOT. i once read that some guy found some sort of filler on a few spots of his rims when he stripped the paint off of them.

take that for what it's worth, but i like your rims the way they are, and if you want some 35th anniversary rims, i would suggest just getting them,

thanks for the input man. yea i saw that car on LS1 tech. that works real nice on an all black theme. I think im just gonna wait until i find a decent set used or something. I will eventually get them for sure. The black + machined look will go VERY well with the theme on my car in my opinion... especially wiht all of my anodized/metallic red everywhere.
