  • What calipers, rotors and pads to get?????

Brakes have been feeling soft, even though the car only has 20k on it, the brakes have been well used.. lol Today I noticed very deep grooves in the passenger rear rotor and slightly on the drivers rear, fronts look great. I am debating new calipers, rotors and pads.. But if I get new calipers I will have to sell my drag setup cause I will not grind new calipers for the rims.. That being said, what is a good caliper/rotor/pad setup.. I hear Hawk pads are very good... Have no idea on rotors, I hear mixed reviews on drilled and slotted.. Opinions? Thanks in advance!

I want to do the big brembos like the cts-v and new SS for the front and rear, it won't be until I get custom wheels to clear those big calipers though. I hear the hawk pads even with the stock calipers/rotors make for better braking. The drilled/slotted rotors are for show only and I hear they don't have any performance advantage and have a tendency to crack (depends on how the rotor was made I think), but hey they look good I'd go with brembo blanks if you're just after good stopping power.

As Abdul said above the drilled slotted rotors are not worth the money. They have a bigger propensity to crack under heavy braking(I mean like road course braking) than stock rotors. A set of pads makes a world of difference. I went road racing last weekend and we swapped from stock to race pads and the difference was astounding. I know hawk makes street pads but I hear they dust more than conventional pads. There really isn't a reason to change the brake setup on our cars unless you are racing all the time or you want to spend money.

And another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

I'm thinking I am going to stick with my calipers, so I can keep my drag setup.. Are the Hawk street pads, HPS? So just some new stock rotors on the corners? I have heard the same things about D/S rotors cracking..

Yeah I think the hawk street pads are the hps. I would just go with the stock rotors.

Drilled will eventually crack if you're a DD and/or drive hard. If you're looking for aftermarket rotors, check out DBA, Baer, Powerstop, EBC...I prefer stock pads but that's me. Opinions vary depending on your intended use.

I intend on using the GM stock pads that came with my CTS-V calipers...rotors are going to be a real PITA though! Hard to find Z06 rotors and Fbody rears that match....I'm opting for a cross-drilled pattern (purely cosmetic) but will not be driving the car enough to worry about cracking.

If you find a pad that doesnt dust like hell, let me know. My LS1 brakes will be installed in the spring and Ill need new pads.

Isn't there a Hawk ceramic brake pad? Those shouldn't dust as bad as stock pads even.

If you go to Oreillys they have Wagner rotors with a lifetime warranty. At least my store back home actually covers it for wear Too bad Wagner doesn't make ceramic pads for our cars. I think BrakeBest does though, and they're lifetime too!

What about a C5 brake conversion? I've seen the brackets going for about $150... Is it worth the upgrade? Anyone know how much the calipers and rotors are?
