The Chevy Camaro was built with a single purpose in mind which it executes flawlessly...Going very very fast in a straight line until your hair catches on fire.

Glad that i have been using Full Synthetic since I got the car back in 2002.

Mobil 1 Extended Life Synthetic. FTW

Thanks for the info guys, I will pass it along to family members that are still using conventional oils.

Good info and it seems to be accepted as fact now a days. I am a firm believer that moble1 is what killed my flat tappet cam at only 6-7K miles. Oil properties sem to be changing quite rapidly over the last few years. Valvoline is on record saying that some of the oils produced now (by them) will kill some older engines in a very short period of time.

I have also heard rumor that Mobile1 is not the oil it used to be.....ie, not fully synthetic.

Makes a guy wanna switch to a more expensive oil like RP or Amsoil.

Dennis the only one you really need to be concerned about is the IROC cause it has a flat tappet cam. The rest of your cars have roller cams and can get by on today's modern oil. The IROC I would use Royal Purple, Amsoil or the diesel oils mentioned in the article.

Rotella isn't that good anymore. They changed the formula at the beginning of the year.

If you do have a flat tappet (like myself)...you can just add GM EOS (Engine Oil Supplement)...and that will add zinc.

Keep in mind also Dennis and for any of you other late 70's to mid 80's flat tappet cam 305 engine owners that those 305's are notorious for having soft alloy cams as well. So this is increasingly important to run something like RP or AMSoil as your cams are prone to wearing out faster too. I've seen more than a couple flat tappet 305's with cam lobes so worn that they almost weren't opening the valves at all.

what james said. BUt I think your El Camino is going to fall in this same catagory. I don't beleive the 95 350/300 motor was roller. I'm pretty sure it uses a flat tappet cam also. That being said I would take the above oils just to be safe.
