Do you still have the A/C lines? Are you saving them? I had a spare set that I cut the fittings off of with just enough of the tube left to fit rubber vacuum caps tightly over them. Clean look, no hassle.

Some progress is better than no progress.
Had a rough time getting the fuel line off. That rubber grommet that is over them is rotted to all hell and it ended up falling off. Can I still reuse the lines or would that be a bad idea? I might just relocate them to make it look cleaner.sigpic

Intake off. Needs a deep clean on it.
The valley was extremely clean. No sludge at all! Very surprised from a 111k mile car.
Heads go on tomorrowsigpic

Hardly an update.
Proceeded with removal of the timing cover removal. The hub was easy to remove and I was relieved.
Timing cover popped off after I lowered the oil pan. I aligned the timing and pulled the cam sprocket.
I believe gm spec is 1 inch of play in the timing chain. I have about half that.

The yellow look is due to the lighting. The pistons and walls were silver.sigpic

Did more things. Need new head gaskets as the ones I got are fine, they were just a little bent on the edges and I'm not going to take any chances.
