  • [Project] Dan's 97 Camaro part 2

Creating a new thread since I spent a lot of money on the car recently.

    This is what is done:
    -111k mile bottom end
-MGW short throw shifter with Hurst knob
    -LED light conversion
    -Hella FF75 with H7 bulbs
-XS-Power headers and y pipe courtesy of Huron Speed
    -Flowmaster catback
    -Rear seats removed
    -C6 Z06 wheels
-275/40/17 tires BF Goodrich Sport COMP II's
    -C5 Corvette brakes up front
    -K&N cold air intake
-New Radiator, water pump, heater hose, coolant hoses
    -Emission system gone
    -Fog lights gone
    -Clear corners courtesy of eBay
    -other stuff I forget

    To come:
    -LE2 heads
    -Cam(will edit in size)
    -Plugs gapped to .035
    -Spec stage 2 clutch
    -Spec flywheel
    -Dynomax bullet in stock location
    -24x
    -Ultra Pro Mag 1.6 RR
    -All ARP hardware
    -Felpro gasket set
    -Canton valve covers
    -Founder's Torque Arm
-Founders 3 piece poly rear LCAs
    -Founder's LCARBs
    -Poly motor mounts
    -Poly transmission mount
    -Walbro 255
    -Lunati lifters
    -Trick flow guide plates
    -A/C delete
    -Line lock
    -Replace parking brake cable
    -Injectors
    -Bleed the damned brakes
    -Strano Springs
-Misc stuff that I'll remember later

This all started with just pulling the timing cover to replace gaskets. Then I got a new 24x kit for pretty cheap, then decided heads and cam.

The only pieces I am missing right now are the clutch, flywheel, fuel pump, injectors, and miscellaneous things. This is the first time I'll be tearing apart a motor so of course I'll be asking dumb questions. I'm still not 100% sure I want to go the route of the spec clutch. The heads should be coming back from Lloyd here in the next few days.

Disclaimer: I will try my hardest to keep this a mature thread.

    Thank you.

Why are you leery on the Spec clutch?

Been reading up on them. Most problems seem to be with the LS spec clutches however. But with my luck, something always goes wrong. Just hate to spend 500 on a clutch and it not be great.

Very cool - since I don't know the El Tee Juans very well, what is the expectation on power?

Ahhh, I see. The orange '88 Mustang that occasionally (well used to until he bought the 2011) made its way out to AE/Ducati got a Spec Stage 2 and I don't think it ever gave him an issue.

Just go all the way with a twin disc.

Yeah. Their lt1 clutches seem to be OK.

              I know. It's expensive.

Probably 380. I'll be lucky to break 400. It's a really small cam, similar to the cc503

                  Took care of the muffler.

And utilized my discount and saved $100 getting fluids and cleaning supplies

Minor progress. Been busy. Should have the intake and timing cover off Sunday. Heads should be here Wednesday.

Oh my eye spy an opti-spark, you did say you got 24x conversion? That was an impressive list of parts needed and to do list.

Indeed I did get a 24x conversion. I robbed the guy of the kit, couldn't pass it up. The opti is only 8 years old with roughly 15k miles on it, and it was dealer replaced. It's still going to be on the car, just not in use. I have a funny idea for it.

Also grabbed some strano springs. So original post updated.

don't you need part of the opti for the 24x?

No, the opti is removed. Using the same thing that's on ls motors basically.
