Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

Well guys here is my build thread. I bought a 1987 Camaro about three weeks ago. Only has the 2.8 5 speed, but as of yesturday I picked up a 1982 Pontiac firebird for a donor car. The man says its a 350, got the car with his Corvette he bought, but not sure if it is. What do you guys think? Saturday we are pulling the motor and tranny out of the camaro, and will begin to put the new motor and tranny in my camaro.
if it is all original it will be a 305, the link below give you all the info on the 82 firebird. easiest way would be to look on the back of the engine for the casting numbers and see what they say, who knows.. engine could have been replaced at some point. http://www.thirdgen.org/1982-pontiac-firebird
What are you plans for the engine/trans before you put them in your new car?
I know nothing about the motor other then it runs and sounds great. I can tell you that by the bin number, the car was originaly a 2.8. I do not have the funds to rebuild either motor or tranny at this time, both are in working functional conditions. The motor and tranny however, will be re-done this winter. Yea yea why put it in then pull it back out, truth be told, I have a lot of time in the winter, and not enough summer left to do it all now and drive my car.
Well o have been doing some digging, judging by the pics of other 305,327,350's, that motor is a 305. Witch is not a big step up, but it will allow me to run my car the rest of the year, and build a new one this winter
I am basing my assumption on the pictures by where the altonator is located.. in the 60's thru 89's from what I seen all 327 & 350's are on the right side while 305 is on the left. Correct me if I'm wrong and keep my hopes alive to have a 327 or 350
well pictures are not going to prove anything really.. the only way to know for sure is to check the casting number on the block.. 350/305 look identical from the outside.. and you can bolt the front accessory bracket from different years and engines on each other.. so to really know for sure.. you will just need those numbers.
here is a pic of what the casting number will look like and be at.. this is on the backside of the engine behind the cylinder head on driver side.
you should be able to see back there.. if you have a cell phone.. turn the flash on and stick it back there and take a shot.. theres nothing wrong with running a 305.. especially if its just temporary.. 350 has more potential and power than the 305.. but at least the 305 is better than that 2.8.
