I made a jumper and jumped the orange side of the fuse to the radio power. Guess what, the lights worked. So this leaves 2 conclusions.

Either the tan wire is bad from the rheostat harness to the fuse block and must be traced and repaired.
Or
The rheostat is bad.

So next step is to take the dash back apart and continuity check the tan wire.

Tried it yet? Curious how they work. My cousins 727 in his coronet was fun to shift manually with the standard console shifter.

I tried it yesterday. Before all the fancy electronic transmissions when you put a trans like the 727 or TH350/400 into 1st its in first and will not shift out of first.
So you put it down to first, then when you wanna shift slap the stick forward.

Its pretty much like doing it on the column but you don't have to put the shifter towards you then go up and you could pass the next gear. This will slap up one and stop, till you slap it again.

Make sure you have a good clutch fan, a fan shroud, and the seal that attaches to the hood is in place.
