Wouldn't the wires in the MAF being broken mean the MAF isn't getting a good reading? IMHO that should be issue #1 to fix before you get off into the weeds with the rest of it. If the MAF is telling the engine that you hardly have any air coming in when you do infact have a bunch of air coming in that would cause your leak condition, right? More air coming in than the PCM knows about. The MAF is what tells the engine what's coming in, so if those wires are broke you're not going to get an accurate reading...

yea its on the parts list, but normally when you unplug a maf doesn't it run rough idle ? and almost stall not rev half way to the moon ?

Actually that's a good point - I hadn't read if you unplugged the MAF already, have you? My understanding of the way things work is with LT1s and a PCM, so maybe what I'm about to say might not be 100% applicable... If you unplug the MAF, it should revert to the Speed Density tables where the amount of air coming into the car is programmed into the tune. I don't know if Ken did the tune on the chip as well, but this is assuming that the tables for speed density were updated for the modifications. If the MAF is giving you funky readings and that's the cause of the high RPMs, theoretically unplugging the MAF should change the way the car idles. Then again, if the speed density tables aren't adjusted for your modifications that too could cause issues with how the car runs.

we haven't tried that yet...tune wasn't done by Ken. The last tune that "was done" was by EVI about 5 yrs, car didn't run right after it was tuned and been sitting since then. I'll will check to see if I have a MAF laying around from my old sbc. We will run through the list of ideas everyone gave and we will report back

Torque checked all intake bolts, they are guten-tight as the germans would say. All vacuum ports on intake closed. Started it up and blew the benzo torch gas around the intake as ken suggested, did not effect engine speed or run quality. Put hand over MAF and it feels like it wants to suck your hand in, doubting intake leak. Played with TPS voltage, couldnt get it below .9V but it was at 4.0V when initially started, this change did not effect idle. I'm questioning IAC now. Not sure what to try next. Only thing I can deduct now is IAC? Is there an easy way to calibrate this?

Ok let see it we can get another throttle body on it. A borrowed one or something that's known to be good. 4.0v is high so I'm hoping that's not in evi tune.
You have a chip in that has has to be tuned. I'm wondering if evi did something to get the car to run when the cam was so far out of phase.

You're rulling out the MAF because you put your hand over it? Of course it's going to feel suction considering it's sucking in the air through there, but if those wires are broken and the MAF isn't reading right..........

when this car came to me there where wires ripped apart and wrapped around the steering shaft. evi must have tried tuning it that way. even the O2 sensor wires where ripped up. im praying this isn't a compound problem. maf plus wiring issues.

now that being said. if you hold tight a minute and let me get these deadlines takin care of in the shop I will find a way out there as long as you can cover my gas cost. I will help as I can. my life has changed big time as I am Mr. mom now and nate go's with me everywhere' so I have to contend with bedtimes and school and the whole 9 yards.

Nope, we didn't rule the MAF out, we just checked for intake air leaks with torch and also checked for negative pressure at the MAF, definitely didn't rule it out.

EVI had Jake's car for 8 months, you think EVI would have noticed the wiring be tore up or a check engine light being on if the wiring was wrapped or badly damaged at the time it was tuned, Jake recalls the harness being fine until all of us noticed it, in your barn after transporting it there. It could have happen from moving around Jakes house and on and off the trailer. In a few we are swapping the throttle bodies, which the stock TB has good AIC and TPS.

will report back, after work, drinks, partying and bon fire is some what complete...all of the above is happening tonight, not in any particular order

Lets see how quick it takes Ken's minions to contact him about the new post. However its past all the BS, how the **** can we fix it should be the subject. In checking EVERYTHING, really when broken down and engine is a big air pump, air, fuel and spark. We know there is fuel pressure, how you ask, well the fuel rail has a fuel pressure gauge right on it showing us. Spark, well it runs, makes noise loud noise coming out of the open headers. Last we know its sucking air, probably too much air, capped all ports on the intake still rain high idle. Now Ill post some pics cause we all know they speak for a thousand words.

Now this looks like it could be the part of the problem, looks to be the correct gasket, but isn't sealing fully. I say part of the problem, cause we also don't know what the PCM that EVI did prior to the rebuild looks like. Give me some ideas, good or bad, just so everyone knows, its not about destroying someones work, its about getting a car back on the road that has been sitting for 4 yrs, when it should be driven and enjoyed.
