Impressive. So is this going to be like driving in a gutted tin can when you're done?

Thanks. Yes it is going to be a 2800-3000 lb tin can. If I remove enough weight, I will get the impression that the 305 is quick.

When I install an aluminum intake manifold I will have to decide if I will install a different cam or not.
I need to removed more weight from the nose to obtain a better weight distribution.

I have been thinking about cutting out the trans tunnel and moving the engine/trans back 2-3 inches, but its a lot of work. It would require rerouting front brake lines, shorter driveshaft and torque arm, transmission crossmember support, and relocating the tunnel. It would probably be more beneficial to have a lighter engine which would lower the overall weight and give it a better weight distribution at the same time.

Crash absorbing devices are being retained incase I happen to shorten the overall length of the car.

I am not going this extreme! I found this article when I was researching weight distribution.

Manual steering. Hydroboost brake setup would save wieght

refer to the title of the thread, Road racing on a Budget! I think he would want power steering for that and hydro boost brake system would break the budget!

Hydroboost systems aren't that expensive if you know where to look.

                            But with that said...

Hydroboost systems run off the power steering pump. Almost zero weight savings.

Zero qieght saving but better brakes for racing. Also get a Cherokee shaft. Lots lighter than the ragjoin and eliminates wheel play amd such. You could try swapping in a rack and pinion idk if it's any lighter.

Meh, only if you have a huge cam and vacuum starve the booster. I'd run a vacuum pump before I switched to a hydroboost setup, and I'd switch to a manual brake setup before either of those.

Seeing that Brian is running a stock 305, don't mess with it. Upgrade to a LS1 brake setup for dirt cheap, run nice pads/rotors and some good fluid.
