Backfired through the intake and shot the filter off... Yay..

Time to take some steps in the wrong direction...

This shouldn't be like this... But it's the least of my concerns for now.

A few things I'd like to say moving on now...- I'm a little reassured know that the engine didn't fail because of anything I did while driving or while assembling the engine.
- Since I'm rebuilding this ***** I'm gonna make a few changes... and make more power.
- At least installing my new gauges and sensors will be a shit ton easier!
With all that said I'm truly depressed right now. The one damn thing on my car I had absolutely no concerns about was the engine... Sometimes it sucks to be a car guy but at least you can really appreciate the amount of quality work, engineering, time and effort that goes into our engines of our daily drivers that continue to survive for 150,xxx+ miles... truly amazing.

so, call me a n00b - I recognize the damage done, but what was the root cause?
Really sorry to hear about this man...minor stuff really eats away at me, so I can't even fathom how you're feeling right now. At least you have access to the tools and knowledge base to know you can get it corrected - it's not like you're absolutely out in the cold on your own.
Good luck with it, and I look forward to seeing all the progress and improvements you'll be making!

Well guys I have to say this; when you go on other forums and then take a look at mifbody, you're left with a true sense of community here. I can't thank everyone enough for the continued support. Yes it sucks but having the whole group here back me up eases the disappointment. So I would just like to say thanks to everyone again, I'll get her back together and put this setback behind me. In the mean time it still sucks, especially because I'll have to miss my "...appointment..." this week with a certain magazine.
At this time I cannot fully disclose what happened. I'll update the issue when I can but it was not due to anything I or anyone else did during the engine assembly, break-in or tuning.Originally posted by Atrus View Postso, call me a n00b - I recognize the damage done, but what was the root cause?

That is a huge bummer Kolin. I bet you're sick to your stomach. You'll get her back on the road and it'll all be worth it in the end. You already have the motor stripped down that's half the battle!!2002 Z28 Camaro A4

Ugh, what a bummer! I really do admire your work ethic though!!! If something like this happened to me that thing would be parted out and sold, the progress you have already made after the issue is astounding!sigpic
