  • [Project] DRYSUMP's Yet Another Restoration Project...Project

Yup that's right, I go from having my car for sale to completely ripping into it. My indecisive ass has finally made up my mind (well on majority of things) and decided if I'm going to keep this girl, I'm going to build her how I want and fix all the BS with it too. I'm actually kinda happy I'm keeping it since I've already start tearing into it I've found something the previous owner conveniently left out and it didn't get reported to carfax when I checked (photos below). Anyway here is a pick for those of you who don't know my car as is and below are the future plans and the progress I've made one day one.

    DSC_0302.JPG

I will say I think she doesn't look half bad to begin with but there is room and much need for improvement...big time.

    First Objective:
    • Remove, Repair and Repaint
      • Front and Rear Bumpers
      • Front Fenders
      • Hood (Maybe)
      • Rocker Panels
      • Engine bay
      • Under-body
      • Brake Calipers

    • Pull...
      • Engine (Currently undecided for new mods)
      • Trans
      • 10-Bolt (Reseal and Repaint unless I decide to get a 12 bolt)

Here are some pics of the progress thus far...

    Remaining To-Do List:
    • Install...
      • Whistler mod headlights
      • Clear corners
      • HID fog light kit to finally have matching lights
      • Tubular K and A-arms
      • Suspension upgrade (undecided on parts)
      • New power steering rack
      • Katech Valve Covers and Coil Relocation Kit (regardless of what I do to the engine)
      • Katech LS9X Clutch Kit
      • Battery relocation
      • Hide all the damn wires and possibly replace the whole damn ugly wire harness
      • Replace all speakers
      • White gauge cluster overlay
      • *Possibly* new seats

I'll keep this updated with what I do and more progress I make. The overall goal though is to clean this old girl up, she needs it and I want to do it. It's gonna be fun!

Sounds like ar good project! I spy some panels under the car and in the wheel weels that were cut and welded in.

I'm glad you didn't sell it, I'd be jealous of the new owner! I have always loved this car.

Just my suggestion, if you plan on painting all that you have listed, you may as well paint the quarters and doors. Either way, I'm sure your car will look great

I'm glad your keeping it, I know you have a lot of time into it and every one knows you by that car. I'm surprised how rusty it is. After you complete this project I would suggest storing it in a car jacket to keep the car dry and prevent further corrosion.

In the next few weeks I will be writing a how to on storing your car. I will list the benefits of a car jacket, why they work, and I will be offering them for sale at a discounted price.

Wish I had lights like Katech has, allows for damn good pictures.

            Should be a fun project

That's a good list you've got. Wish I could afford paint, my doors, quarters, and rear bumper need it badly.

Holler if you need a hand turning any wrenches, I'm almost always free after work, plus you still owe me a tour, lol.

I envy you having the perfect place to upgrade your car! I agree with all the comments, your car is your Icon on woodward, too bad police have that icon on their puters also. LOL
Look forward to the progress and maybe I'll jump down there some sat to see progress.

                  Ever think about Black mirrors?

Or if you redo the hood do the scoop in carbon fiber with carbon fiber mirrors? Something to make it a little different/ premium

Thanks, trust me that thought has crossed my mind, I'll see how it all turns out. To be honest the only part of the fenders that actually need to be repainted are the bottoms so that is kinda up in the air. I'll update with my decision after I have a conversation with our body/paint guy monday.

I was never really a fan of the white cars with black mirrors. If I'm correct, I thought 2000 was the first year the started painting the mirrors white.

Let me know when the pizza and wrenching day is! Looks like both of us are gonna make some major progress this winter!

edit: is it possible those floor pan repairs are why your seats never seemed to be level?

I'm not sure, Spencer has the same problem with his seats too. I plan on working on this everyday during lunch and then after work so hopefully this goes smooth and fast.

Thats a kick ass benefit you have sir. Yea, my seats always had a little tilt to them too, just didnt seem like quite so much. With my new seats i put a couple washers on the outer bracket to make them sit level.

Sure do, im really curious as to what causes that.
