  • If it is a actual knock hold your ear on an extension or screw driver and touch stuff. Exhaust leak hold ear on hose and move around the flange. Screw driver won't work for an air leAk but a hose will

What do you guys think about running some sea foam or Lucas in the camaro for about 100 miles and changing the oil?

        or run trans fluid?

        • Sounds to me like rods bearings went. Mine made that same sound when I did a burnout and hit the rev limiter

          • Yea I hit the rev limiter pretty bad during it. Would a small video with the passenger cover off help any of you engine gurus? I have plenty towels to cover up lol

            Comment

            • I would run it to get it up to operating temp, then remove the cover and run it without the cover to find out which one is making the noise. Be careful not to start a fire. Once you find out which one is the problem you can diagnose from there. Make sure the rocker is still tight, the nut didnt back off. (bolt whatever)

What is the oil pressure when warmed up? Is it the same as before? Have you tried changing it?

Edit: also look at the valve springs, make sure none are broken.

              • So here is what I did today.

I retorqued the header bolts. Some were a little loose. Jacked the car up and felt around one last time to see if it was an exhaust leak. Did not find anything

Bought a stethoscope and listened around. Seems like the tick is coming from the rear of the engine. Could not pin point it exactly. But heard the sound towards the rear. Even sounded like it was coming from the trans in a way.

Pulled the driver side spark plugs and the very last one was coated in oil, but only on the threads. The tip looked to be somewhat normal. I had 4 spare TR55's so just put those in for the hell of it.

Drained 1qt of oil, and filled it with lucas.

Before filling it with lucas I drove around town with it, obviously the tick is there but not as loud.

After driving around with lucas, the tick seemed to quiet down even more, but it is still there.

What should my oil pressure be while driving around? When I am idle it seems to be a tad under 40. When I give it gas it goes up to 60 then drops back down to 40ish when cruising around.

I did also discover that my temp sensor kind of melted off

Camaro still pulls hard and runs good

                            • a buddy of mine had his flexplate crack, had all the same symptoms as you and thought it was a bearing...but turned out it cracked right down the middle but still drove just ticked bad.

                              edit: just a thought...

when we installed the tc, I did not have the correct size. So we used cutoff wheel to trim the bolts. I do not remember if we use loctite or not.

It was my decision to cut them, not his

For the rear spark plug, why would that specific one be coated in oil? Did not seem like the valve cover was leaking.
