  • [Project] Project Beer Money 2011

Well, I guess its time to let the semi secret out to the rest of the MIFbody people who arent on my facebook.

I'll spare the initial details but this is whats been going down so far. The engine is an lq4 that I bought as a short block. Its in good shape and its gonna get boosted! I swapped the accessory drive to the Fbody setup. I dont have power steering so I wont be needing that, but the pan has been swapped as well. Im also using a set of stock 317 heads. I'm gonna use my TH350 that I built myself.

Right now Im waiting on parts but the engine has been torn down and ready to rock as soon as more stuff arrives.
    Specs so far:
Suffering with the LS1 intake for now
    Comp Cam turbo grind
    LS7 Lifters
    Patriot Gold Extreme springs
    LS9 Head gaskets
    ARP Head Studs
    LS2 Timing chain
    LS6 Oil pump
Adapter Plates to use the old school sbc mounts
Flexplate with spacer and longer bolts
    ARP Rod Bolts

    Upcoming stuff:
    80 LB Injectors
    Fuel rails
    Aeromotive 340 pump
    Custom Stand Alone harness
    Aftermarket Balancer
    Misc gaskets
    Kwik Performance alternator bracket
    Battery Relocation

I already purchased my turbo, BOV, wastegate, and an intercooler but, i think the core may be a little too small. The turbo is an S400 BW. Its certainly not an original build by any means Should make some good numbers. I want to get the engine as complete as possible before stabbing it in the car. My engine runs find as it sits right now so I can at least enjoy it for the time being before all hell breaks loose. Stay tuned

Thanks to Virtue (Russ) and Sman (Spencer) for some parts needed along the way.

Did you still need oil pan bolts? I found a bag with a few in them if you need?

The short block when I bought it, and some mockup pictures. Looks good with red valve covers and water pump. Unfortunately it sticks out too much for my tastes.

I got the head studs installed this week, the cam is in its final resting place, and I got the block, valve covers, valley cover, and timing cover painted. Nothing flashy.

At the end of day today, Im waiting on my head gaskets which should be here this week. I need to make an order of pushrods and a few misc gaskets to get it completed.

I've definitely scoped out your build James. Your thread is very informative.

My John Deere turbo. Its a factory race cover with a 72 compressor wheel which is upgardable to an 80 wheel. T6 flange with a 1.32 A/R hotside and 96 mm wheel. I'm going to reduce the downpipe from 5" to 4" and probably run a full exhaust. No its not staying brown. 2011-02-12_11-44-00_24.jpg

                    Lookin good!

Im heading over to the shop tonight to put a mac book pro in a vice to try and straighten it out (seriously, it was a bad drop) ill grab those and a tray nut, you should be able to run up to Mid state bolt and screw and they should be able to make some.

I can give you a few formulas to find out if your intercooler will work and the area needed to mount it where it can get enough airflow.

How much boost are you planning on running?

I dont know exactly just yet. I'm gonna see what I can get away with. I know what I'd like to get out of it. I think 12 psi is easily obtainable on pump gas with no meth injection.

For 12 psi on a 6.0 (366 CI) you should use a Pressure Ratio of 1.82.

CFM flow roughly at 6000 rpm is 540 cfm.

Under boost your engine will need to flow 983 CFM, or 69 lbs/min.

According to the map you will be 68% efficient at 6000 optimum RMP is 3500 - 4000 RPM for 76% efficient.

On the low end of a LQ4 with 12 psi expect to see 508 bhp
On the high end expect to see 752 bhp.

(At air pressure of 14.7 PSI)

Estimates if you are running a 3 core is to have 37 square inches of surface area.
2 Core is 55 square inches.

Woot! Got my LS9 Head gaskets yesterday. Also made an order for Texas Speed today. Hopefully that should get me finished with the engine and I can worry about getting the harness and fuel system going.
