  • Well I started to do some measuring as I am considering doing a LS1 style intake. My first discovery was that my Moroso Cold Air intake filter is quiet filty. Hopefully part of the reason for my crappy fuel mileage.

After removing the upper radiator support I noticed a bunch of debris in front of the radiator. I think I am going to have the radiator flushed.

I like the quote "I may not be good but I am slow and expensive" lol
Hopefull I will have some primer on the rocker/dorr Wednesday.

I had my radiator/ trans cooler pressure checked and steam cleaned, and flushed. They check out good
My steering column is almost back together I just need to get a new horn switch and I can re install the air bag.
However I had trouble finding a snap ring for the steering column and I ended up puling the seats to find it. Well looks like I have some carpet cleaning to do while the seats are out!

            • Here is a quick recap of the past week

              The carpet is much improved
              ebay December 300.jpg
I decided to replace the rear main while the trans was out, which lead into replacing the oil pan gasket. That turned in to a project. The engine is pretty clean for 188,000 miles. I can't find any evidence that it was replaced.

Last night Darren came by and we filled this hole with a rebuilt transmissionebay December 309.jpg

More to come by this weekend.

                  • Very nice work, Brian! You should weld that oil pickup tube to the oil pump while you're there - it almost looks loose in the pics. That's a common oil problem with LT1s is the press-fit pickup tube will drop out of the pump.

Not sure if he welded the pickup tube or not, he will have to answer that. But the oil pan and everything is already back on and trans is in.

                          • kk - I keep looking at that picture and the oil tube is definitely "hanging down" like it's loose unless it's just the angle of the picture. I'm sure Brian knows his stuff, just want to make sure he isn't driving around and that tube falls out.

                              Thanks and Good Eye Brian.
I was able to remove the oil pan without lifting the motor because the oil pick up was loose. I meaured the oil pick up depth to oil pan and tacked the pick up onto the pump. But then the oil pan wouldn't go back on because the oil pick up was fixed. So I had to remove the exhaust, and passenger motor mount bolt to pick up the engine. It was not a fun Saturday. But its one step closer to a presentable car.
