• nascarnate326 when you got your engine rebuilt, you got the block and heads painted, right? Where did you get that done/who did it?

    • Dowker Engines painted the block and timing cover, I painted the heads.

They specialize in race open wheel motors/ old school SBC's but had no problem with my motor.

The owner is a big Silver Lake buggy guy, hes got some sweet stuff.

I had them clean the heads before I painted them.

Was that the place that did the rebuild? Or did you take it elsewhere?

        • Thats the place that did the rebuild. Take them the parts, slide debit card, put back in car.

          • A few of us on here have had engines rebuilt at "State Motor" over on the east side.

            • The only shop I've talked to so far is Livernois, since I know a few people there. The car is in Allen Park/Dearborn, so I'd probably prefer someplace closer to there.

              • Question: when I take the motor in (to whoever) for a rebuild, what parts am I expected to provide? Do I need to bring in new seals, gaskets, bearings, all that stuff? Sorry if it's a dumb question, this is uncharted territory for me. I'd like to start buying parts soon.

                • when I had Dave rebuild my motor I brought him the complete shortblock with a spun rod bearing and the ARP rod bolts and he took care of the rest. He also assembled the shortblock for me and got me a sweet deal on a new set of stock replacement pistons which I bought simply due to cost.

Lucky bastard. Even when I told him that cost wasn't an issue, he still wouldn't assemble the shortblock that he machined for me. Now no one particularly wants to assemble it because they didn't do the machine work.

If you can get Dave to assemble it for you, he is without question the person I would go to again.

                    • How much could I probably get for a 153k mile LT1 with a spun bearing? This project looks like it will be going a slightly different direction.

                          • I just took my nasty motor and the cam. Came back and picked up a ready to go short block.

                            • Did some more work on it today. All that needs to be disconnected now is the AC lines, driveshaft, brake booster, and shift cable.

                              • so I'm working on removing the brake master cylinder. What's the best way to drain it/remove it without getting brake fluid all over everything?
