Quality bearings, High quality lock up clutch, tig welded, billet cover, billet piston, furnace brazed, anti ballooning plate, ect

These are all things that go into a high quality converter.

Which a "budget" converter you get what you pay for as corners are cut and performance and durability goes down.

As much as I know that LSx would be a better engine, there's a part of me that would rather keep an LT1 in an LT1 car. I'm just not interested in a swap, but not for any rational reason. And 6-speed swap ain't happening either lol.

Well then, get it tore apart so you can see just what the problems are. Then go from there. I was shocked at how fast the motor goes together. You could do it your self in a day if you had all the parts.

Last year, i was considering a convertor to up the fun factor on stock cam... and thought maybe a mild cam in future for my 95 Formula...
Here is what I've heard from stall vendors themselves:

Yank says SS3200
Precision Industries (Vig) says 2400
FTI says 3200 to 3600
CircleD says 3000

2400 to 3600 is a pretty big range for stock to mild cam... and LS1 converters will not work w/ LT1.

Many will do a 'free' restall within a given time frame (just cover postage)

I ditched all those plans when I got the green light for a 2013...

So I think with my lack of a garage, I'm probably going to have to rent a self-storage bay (10x20 or 10x25?) and do the work there. It's looking like it's going to cost $130-$170/mo depending on what size I get, so I suppose that will be motivation to get this done relatively quickly. I've never used self storage before. Do you think it's a feasible option? I'm worried that self storage places won't want me working on my car, or that I won't be able to access it whenever I want/need to. Also, will 10x20 be enough space, or should I pay more and get a little more space to work in?

I think most places will let you work on the car as long as you make sure to clean it up and not leave any oil stains or residues behind. I would probably line the entire floor with plastic and then put a layer of cardboard on top of the plastic, then back your car in on top of it. That way the storage company will know you're not going to screw up the unit while you're working on your car. Plus, the cardboard will be a nice barrier when you're laying under the car.

Where do you think I could get enough cardboard to line the floor?

It'd be more expensive, but easier to obtain, maybe do the cheapest, thinnest plywood or OSB you can find instead? Would come in 4x8 sheets so it'd be easier to cover the whole floor with only a few sheets.

just go to harbor freight and get the big huge drop clothes, they are good and cheap buy 2-3 and just double them up. Then get a few pieces of big cardboard like boxes to put right where the oil would likely be.

now that I think about it, it would be a PITA to maneuver a floor jack/engine hoist on top of drop cloths or cardboard...whatever, I can figure something out. Now, do you think 10x20 will be enough space?

If you need cardboard..You can just go to a local grocery center either in the morning (About 8am..or night..about 11pm) and get lots of freight boxes once they break them down.

10X 20 is a typical parking space size... not really big enough to maneuver around IMO

I'm seriously considering some of this stuff. From what I'm reading about the cc306, it might not be very well-suited for what I'm going for, but the heads and rockers at the very least sound pretty good to me. Maybe I could get a package deal and sell off what I don't use. Thoughts?
