Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

Either wheel would be awful sweet, Nick. Hope you can find a deal on your first-choice rims!
The best deal I've found so far is $566 shipped for a set of (2) 17"x9.5" and (2) 18"x10.5", the machined face deep dish C5 wheels that I posted first. I placed the order this morning. I'm also looking at possibly buying everything for a cam swap in a couple weeks. That's up in the air right now, though, because I want to make sure I have everything I'm going to need, and I'm kind of wary about putting a cam in a high-mileage LT1 like mine, but when I had the valve covers off last, the heads at least appear to be in great shape, I'll have to see what the internals look like when I start tearing into the motor a little bit. . .
So, I've got a TON of parts waiting to go on the car now, just need to get back home to get the wrenching done. I'll be setting up a weekend where anyone who wants to help can come out, and I'll provide the pizza and beer. So far, the biggest PITA is going to be the headers, and I should be able to knock those out on a Saturday with some help.
I vote darker red. Seems like we both ordered new wheels! Black is the new chrome wooooot
Awesome! What rims did you go with?
I was thinking of a darker red, but if I go that route, I'm going to have to do something really off-the-wall with it, like HUGE metal flake, the kind you'd see on a jet boat. . . That wouldn't look bad with some black stripes. . . If I do a brighter red, I'll go with a candy apple red or something similar. I was even considering a dark orange, but I didn't want to veer too far from the stock color.
I think I have an idea. . . Fix the stock paint, shoot medium/bright red metal flake on the whole body, then add black metal flake stripes. . . Something like the ones found on the GM Performance Parts Special Edition LS1 Bird, with the ram air hood (I'm looking at a couple of nice hoods right now, I think I'm going to end up going with either a 2" cowl induction or the WS6 hood). I think that would look pretty cool. . . Follow the stripes from the front of the ram air inlets to the back of the hood, skip the roof, and continue them down the hatch to the top of the taillights.

Reason: added pic
I think I should have clarified a little more, the stripes above are about the same shape as what I want on my car, but in black metal flake over the factory color. Maybe I'll shoot the stripes first in regular gloss black, then shoot red metal flake over the whole car. . . That could be cool too, more of a "ghost" effect. . .
Already have a bunch of parts already at home, called Mom earlier, she said packages had arrived already, I told her that my rims were on the way. Definitely have a couple more parts to order in a couple weeks, then I'm just going to wait until I get a chance to install them all and take it for a spin. . . Can't wait!
Received the tracking # this morning, the rims are on their way. I'll have the tires mounted and balanced when I get home, and they'll be on the car when the roads are finally clear of salt and other nasty stuff. . . I'm not taking any chances with these wheels, the problems I had with the chrome ones were enough to make me realize a couple of things. . .
1) You get what you pay for.
2) If you take care of it, no matter how fragile or unimportant it is, it will last longer.
3) Wheels are expensive. Ironically enough, tires can be even more expensive.
I've been looking at a couple of different options to get a little more "Go" out of my car, but I'm not really seeing anything I feel comfortable with just yet. I'm not sure I want to go with a cam, because I don't feel comfortable digging that deep into the engine, at least not until I rebuild it. I don't want to run FI or nitrous, because I've never driven anything other than N/A cars my whole life, and I don't want my heavy foot to cause any undue stress on the engine, I want to get as much mileage out of the stock build as I can, before I end up tearing it apart and making it bigger, better, and faster than before. I'm also of the opinion that if you can't afford catastrophic failure, don't do too much to the car. As much as I don't want it to be, the Firebird is my DD, at least until I get the truck fixed up some. I need this thing to be as reliable as possible until then. Maybe I'll throw a dry kit on it, or save up for a supercharger, but for right now, I'll stick with what I've got, and try to enjoy it as much as I can.
That said, I'm looking to get rid of some rims. . . Have 2 sets of stockers (one set from a '97 'bird, one from a '93 Formula), and a set of (2) 17" and (2) 18" '98 Corvette "Wagon Wheels" in chrome (on my car in my sig pic). I'll post up a 'For Sale' thread after I get off work, but keep in mind, I'm overseas, so pictures are going to be just about impossible for me to get. Only the stock 16's will come with tires, and most likely they will need replacing, but they will be great for burnout vids. . . haha
I have the paint color dropped down to 2 distinct possibilities. . . Candy Apple Red Metallic, or Burgundy Metallic. . . I'm leaning towards the Candy Apple Red, I think it would look AMAZING on my car. . . I wanted to do stripes as well, but I decided against replacing the hood, so I don't know how to make them look good. I'll probably just go with a solid paint job for now, and maybe add something else to the car later on. . .
If your going to do all this work, I hope your keeping it forever.
Solid color FTW. I like the TA bumper idea and ttops.
I'm hoping to. . . haha I have always wanted a car that was truly "mine", you know. I've always just kind of driven cars until they broke, this one I'm actually taking the time to make sure everything I do to it is what I really want to do. Right now, I'm looking at possibly doing a rear end rebuild, installing 3.73's or 3.90's and my Detroit Locker. I don't think I'm going to go with a 6 speed swap, as much as I'd like to have a manual, that's just not that important to me right now, especially with the cost involved. T-tops may or may not happen in the future, I'm not sure I want to hack at my roof, not to mention it's kind of hard to find hardtop 4th gens, and once you make that first cut into the roof, there's no turning back.
I'm just tackling this thing a little at a time right now, my next purchase is going to be the stuff needed for the paint job, which I'll be doing at home this summer. I just hope I can do half as good a job as my Dad would if he were still here.
Oh yeah, I decided on my "theme" for the interior. . . I want people to get into my car, and think it's a race car. I've got a few toggle switches scattered around, I'd like to incorporate a switch panel into an overhead console, I have the overhead console out of my old Blazer still, I'll probably use that. Extra interior lighting, map lights, dome light, etc., as well as a nice place for a switch panel (where the compass and ext. temp display is currently). I have a few other ideas, but with the 5" tach (w/ shift light) and gauges in the A/C vents in the center, it already looks "fast". I have a couple of parts on the way that will help the interior out a little more.
On that same note, I found an old article in GMHTP about a '94 T/A or Formula that was running 11's with 100k+ miles on the original engine and trans, 2.73 rear gears, and stock exhaust and intake. . . Just goes to show that anything's possible with a little ingenuity and a LOT of Nitrous. lol He still DD'ed the car too, which I thought was pretty cool. His knowledge base on these cars is great, and he's done all of the work himself, tweaking things a little at a time to get it right.
I think the overhead console idea from your blazer will look like crap and way out of place IMO. Also that article the guy didn't run the 2.73 gears rearend at the track and he made the car very light. He took out all the sound deadener and carpet and put in cheap stuff to save weight. He cut up his hood underside and also ran a th350 trans with his own homemade nitrous kit. The car ran some very impressive times though and was a sleeper if you ask me. He also had drag wheels for the track but they were cheapo black wheels from jegs or summit.
