Looks like some of your aluminum head material came out with that plug. Hopefully there's still enough thread left in the head to work OK.

got heads back on with new gasket, got the valve lash set, I got a set of 1:6 roller rockers this weekend so I put them on, new timing chain, installed timing cover with new seals, and decided to check over my opti closer since the vent wasn't connected when I bought the car. I have a spare from B's LT1, on close examination the bottom screw was missing on the cover the cover was slightly cocked and sealed with rtv. It was working! but I decided to use the other one instead, inside of both was clean. Mounted water pump after that and stopped for the day.Attached Filessigpic

Ok Larry not that I want to put a damper on your progress but if memmory serves you need new (better) valvesprings to use 1.6 Rockers.

I don't think that you have to have better springs, but I think that you do have to cut some of the plastic out of the inside of the valve cover. Is the doctor in the house?

I don't know I seem to remember years ago an old friend of mine putting 1.6 rockers on his `94 Z droptop and the kit came with valvesprings. Seems to me that the stock springs would go into coil bind with the extra lift.CraigSemi Retired Street Racer2012 Lava Red Mustang GT 5.0 MT82GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN

Yep, it appears that I need different valve springs to run 1:6 rockers. Thanks Craig, for the alert and helping to avoid a catastropy. So I'm putting stock ones back in for now.sigpic

I looked on CamaroZ28.com and Fred [Injuneer] - a well respected LT1 expert on that site - said that if you put stock springs with 1.6 ratio roller rockers that you're about 0.030" from coil bind.
Originally posted by InjuneerAdd 1.6 rockers and you are .030" from coil bind (under what most people recommend as minimum[.050"]. Add 1.7 rockers and you are going to bind and probably break every spring and possibly destroy your engine with a dropped valve.
Two different engines most likely don't have the same spring specs (installed height, coil bind height, etc.). Not wise to compare that way.
IMHO, the valvetrain is the worst place to compromise with parts. Why people want to take chances with it, I don't know. Putting more stress on worn out stock springs is a poor recipe. 1.6s will run on a stock spring, but is it worth the risk?
I think it's safe to say either we upgrade the springs or he returns to stock rockers.- Brian Meissen

Now how many times have I saved you from making catastrophic decisions.
And whether they would work or not isn't the point of this. Larry's orginal springs have never been stressed beyond the stock lift point. Adding the 1.6 rockers might have put them over the limit despite being just under the coil bind spec. And in my book (and most others) that .030 is too small a window to chance it anyway even with new stock springs.CraigSemi Retired Street Racer2012 Lava Red Mustang GT 5.0 MT82GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN

I agree thats why I put the stock rockers back in. Not worth taking a chance. I'll use the rollor rockers when I built the bird next year or the year after.sigpic
