I am going to have to let it sit for awhile until I get some other projects done, I am sure I will keep you guys posted on this one as soon as I get started, trust me, I can't wait to start documenting and restoring it.

Hey Man, Naa, I think I am going to do an original restoration. I always loved factory originals (all though this will have non original sheetmetal).

The Trans Am is now home and I got to "dig" into it a bit. I see that rust is a bit more prevalent than I originally thought. I am going to stick to my guns and bring her back to it's glory.

Here are some delivery shots. I started to disassemble the glass windshield and backglass moulding tonight in order to settle my mind and start to assess the damage......I have a lot of work on my hands. This car must have been sitting outside a lot in it's life, the windshield and backglass where no longer adhered to the body with it's orginal seal, someone used silicone and filled in the channel around all the glass in order to keep out moisture, I think this did more damage than good. This will be a long project, patience will be needed on my part.

Was it standard to have consoles with all firebirds and you had to delete it? I am assuming the carpet is original and there are no mounts for a console and no indication of a console.

I have not gotten any PHS docs yet but I do have a copy of the original dealer invoice, I will get all the PHS docs, this is one reason why I like the Pontiacs, great documentation available.

Thanks for all the comments, yes, I am going to be busy!
It was standard on all Trans Ams...and I'm not sure if it would show up on a dealer invoice as I don't believe that the buyer actually got a credit for deleting it (could be wrong...very unusual to see one).

But it should (might) show up on the PHS docs as RPO 9N5 CONSOLE, FRT COMPT, FLOOR, DELETE, so you really do have to work at it to order one without it...

                    Great project...I am jealous...

Looks like a nice project. My son has a shaker air cleaner with base from a Trans AM. My son is selling it. I think he is asking $140 for it. Give him a call. (734) 635-7206

I did some more "Snooping around" on the TA today. I found some neat things like all four original shocks are still installed. The orginal brake rotors are still attached, the Muncie M21 matches my VIN and along with the date stamp being legit, and the shifter is truely a Hurst. Found the orginal code stickers on the brake booster and throttle cable (I would like to duplicate these too). The orginal upper and lower ball joints are still being used (rivets instead of bolts). I found the engine code which matches all the documentation I have read, but I could not find the vin stamp on the block.

Does anybody know how to fix this rust?? Ouch
                                4-1-09 (1).JPG

Looks innocent under here but there are some trouble spots under the rear seats.
                                IMG_4982.JPG

The rear glass was barely held in with it's third layer of silicone, I think the last owner would have been better off driving around without the glass installed. I think I may have to find a donor car or wait for full rear quarter repros! Double Ouch!
