If you could work it, I will be at the meet and greet and could bring them with me, but i know that will be a little soon. But if not, just let me know, I will probably still have them.

I have a feeling the master mechanic will suggest the 4.10s for sure, I know I would with a setup like yours. Your not gonna notice much of a difference going to 3.73 and your gas mileage will hardly be hurt stepping up to the 4.10 gears.Doing less with more

I have 4.10's but for racing I'm actually going to drop down to a 3.80 so I can keep her in 4th gear.
4.10's are nice and the kick in the pants would be noticeable for sure
But for all the high-way driving she does I would stick with a 3.73 in the stock rear.
That small 7.5 ring will shatter like glass with the pwr she is putting down & she has a M-6 too boot.
A 4.10 would go

BTW, I have a 9" so that is why I have a 4.10 otherwise I would have a 3.73 in mine also.

I have a set of 4.11 gears for a stock 3rdgen rear, will they work? If yes I can drop them off to you this weekend while I come into town for a new DD..Originally posted by Old Fart View PostI would love 3.73 but what will that cost me? Can't I just get the gears? I'm getting to the flat broke range. And yes, I do listen to Kyle. I know he knows what he's doing and I've never doubted that.
Thanks Sean. I'll try that next time. Seems like every 100 or so miles I go, they get all funked up.99 Buick Regal GS- New DD

4.11 are going to be to much for her.
And our cars only have a 7.5 ring gear and the 3rd gen is bigger than that.
But thanks

I agree with the 10 bolt being weaker yet with aftermarket gears, but that will come with any steeper gear not just 4.10s IMO the 3.73s will do the same.Doing less with more

Dr. Dr. give me the news, I've got a bad case of spark plug blues.
Kyle is here right now tinkering under the hood. He changed the plugs and as expected they were pitch black. So we took it for a drive and he was helping relearn how to drive the car down my road. He also, as per TJ's instructions, fiddled with the chip and made it a tad leaner in the lower rpm range. Came back and checked a plug and it is ghost white as he called it so he is making it a tad more on the rich side again but not quite as much as it was originally after TJ's tune. So we will see what happens now. I'd like to take the car back to TJ to see if he can fine tweak some more.sigpic

3.73s are indeed stronger. To get a 3.73 gear the pinion has 9 teeth and the ring has 31. For 4.10s the pinion has 10 teeth and the ring has 40. More teeth in the same space means that the teeth are actually smaller, and weaker. Sorry for the hijack red!Originally posted by DETROITMUSCLE View PostI agree with the 10 bolt being weaker yet with aftermarket gears, but that will come with any steeper gear not just 4.10s IMO the 3.73s will do the same.
Anyway, glad to hear that you guys are getting this figured out. Man, my driveway is dirt, and that cause enough hassles for me in the summer. I can't imagine what it must be like to have to drive down an actual dirt road whenever you wanted to get the car out.

With TJ 's help I was able to get the car leaner at idle.
He had me decrease the fuel by .85 and that comes out to 15%.
We took the car for a drive, about 20min or so, came back and had a lean condition with Red's driving so I added .43 or 6-7% back in.
She is going to bring it to my house tomorrow so we can see how it is and go from there but I think we got the fuel part taken care of but I'm going to see if TJ will tune the Low RPM's for me so we don't hurt anything.
