I just want to make sure I have enough room between the tank and the dimples in the sheet metal before I cut that notch. I took off one of the rubber grommets last night, and it was pretty close.sigpic

It is - you don't want to let the wheel go below the metal. You want to just give it enough wheel to cut the steel a little bit at a time.- Brian Meissen

IT RUNS! 60 psi at idle.
I had the intention of taking pics and documenting everything, but while sitting there by myself with tools and parts everywhere, I decided F that.

I didn't cut the notch, but came up with a pretty good idea. I put a ziptie on the line and pushed it over the release then snugged it up. That allowed the line to release super easy.sigpic

Good idea with the zip tie, Brett. It also looks like your quick disconnect lines are actually closer to where you cut than mine were. Good job!- Brian Meissen

YOU CUT A HOLE IN YOUR CAR! NO! lol, I love how many people talked this down when we first mentioned it, now people realize how incredibly easy and worthwhile cutting the trap door is instead of dropping everything
Looks like you did a nice clean job there

Agreed... 15 minutes to get to the fuel pump > dropping everything under the rear of the car to drop the tankOriginally posted by redfbird99 View PostYOU CUT A HOLE IN YOUR CAR! Yeah, it went right in the next time I tried after talking to you. Sometimes you just need to take a step back and relax.Originally posted by DETROITMUSCLE View PostI knew after you called me you'd have it done soon
good work Brett.

Originally, I wasn't to keen on this method. Now, after finishing it up, I won't ever do it any other way.Originally posted by meissen View PostAgreed... 15 minutes to get to the fuel pump > dropping everything under the rear of the car to drop the tank
I can smell a hint of gas inside the car, but I am hoping that will go away after I put down some RTV and screw down the panel.
I was able to drive the car to work today (the 45* temps in the morning were killing me riding on my motorcycle). I think the pump has been going bad for a while now. It starts quicker and feels better throughout the RPM's.sigpic

You haven't put the panel on yet?
Yeah, it should make that smell go away.
Mine felt that way too, cause it would take forever to start, but it seemed to run okay when it was finally fired - then I got the new pump and it was like "woah".Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

I have the panel taped on there, but no RTV and screws yet. lol
I want to wait until I am sure that the float is working correctly before I put it on.sigpic

So last Saturday my Mom side swiped my TA in the driveway. I am still quite mad about this. I have always been worried about this happening, and when I voiced my concerns about it, I was told not to worry because she always pays a lot of attention when she is backing up.
Anyway, the scrape starts right behind the door on the drivers side, goes over the gas door, and down the rest of the rear quarter.
The only reason I didn't totally lose it was because I was putting it away for the winter later that day. If it was in the middle of the summer, it would have been a different story. At least I have 5 months to figure something out.
I was thinking about getting some paint work done this winter on the hood, headlight doors, and rear bumper. Now I will definitely have to do something. I have some ideas...
