if they are sticking out enough use a dremel to flatten the bolt out so you can get a better grip on it with a vice grips.Originally posted by MunsterZ28 View Postthey are sticking out from the head. im using an extractor socket to try and grab them. bought em from harbor freight and the stud is inbetween sizes-Joel

well try using vise grips those should do the trick mybe even get a little bit of heat on those bolts, if not those bolts are metric anyways so thats why your socket doesn't fit. A metric set would be a better investment then putting it together with a leaky header.Doing less with more

I was totally amazed when I did dad's headers that we didn't break a bolt off - I figured for sure we'd break a bolt. If you have to have the bolt drilled out you can have it helicoiled and it will be fine.- Brian Meissen

X2 you need to heat the bolt up.
You have a few different options the firet of which would be taking a torch and heating it up. Ideally you would want to heat up the cylinder head but being that is is aluminum, it has a lower melting point than steel.
Depending on how much room you have if enough is sticking out you could slide a nut OVER the bolt so it fits snug. Then weld that nut to te stud and it will get red hot. Let it cool down for 30 seconds and it should unscrew if your weld had good penatration.
Worse comes to worse you may have to pull the head.

You can try heat to loosen them up, but this is NOT the same as getting a bolt out of an iron head. Iron does not expand with heat like aluminum does. If you get the head hot (which you will because alu conducts heat well), its only going to clamp down on the bolt harder and youll probably end up breaking the stud since it will be weakened by the heat. Heat it and let it cool back down if anything.
i like the welding idea though!-Joel

pulling them off and taking it to a shop will probably still be cheaper and better anyway then getting a different set... it just takes patience... not your going to be driving the car for a while since winter is here

If you're willing to do the drive, Fred, give Steve (BLKHAWK) a PM or call. He had my bolt drilled out and helicoiled, my valve springs installed, and the bowls ported at the same time for like $250. The guy also checked my valves to make sure they were sealing good and didn't need an angle job. But he can get head work done real cheap for you.- Brian Meissen
