Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

reason being is that 87 octane is fine on these type of engines because the ignition timing is not set. it varies. one reason is due to the knock sensors. as it notices knock from fuel lighting to early(low octane) it de tunes the PCM to less timing which in terms = less hp,
i ran low octane most of my cars life and it was fine.

Low CR? since when is 10.5:1 low. Not high for a modified car, but that is pretty high for a stock engine. Your manual says to run premium for a reason. And you really want knock going on it your engine? I know I sure as hell don't. Premiuem is only ~1.50 more per tank if you are completly empty, which you shouldn't be cause then you are starving your fuel pump. If you can't afford an extra 1.50 per tank, you should not be drving an fbody.

Thats a safety precaution. Our Lucerne CXS's, amd G8's say premium also.
I can run 94 on my Camaro without any problems. He should be fine.

agreed. 10.5:1 is about the most you see until you start looking at direct injection engines.
Brian will be fine running 87 octane but I really dont see why youd want to when a bottle of Octane booster is what, $5?? I wouldnt be "worried" about it but I wouldnt want to wait a full tank of gas before I could get the full performance of my car.
Also (I may be wrong on this) but I think the timing advance/retard is a short term multiplier. Therefore its not just going to detect knock once and thats it. It will be correcting itself constantly.
Is it going to hurt anything? No. ive driven my car untuned for 2000 miles. But its obvious the computer is always readusting its timing, just about everytime my throttle position makes a significant change. It doesnt "learn" and you wouldnt want it to, or you wouldnt get the performance back when you put premium in it.
