  • Shorties or Longtubes for my car?

I have shortys on my car right now, do you think I would see substantal gains from going to long tubes. or just get my shorties coated?
The Chevy Camaro was built with a single purpose in mind which it executes flawlessly...Going very very fast in a straight line until your hair catches on fire.

Longtubes. Shorties barely gain you anything over stock manifolds.

Everyone is going to tell you to get longtubes...... No doubt.

But if you already have a set of hedders i wouldn't spend more money on longtubes

Longtubes for sure if you are going from stock. Since you already have shorties I'd focus on other things unless you can get a killer deal on some coated LT's

Since we are on the topic of LT, I would like to put pacesetter LTs on my LT1 but no luck of finding dual cats Y-pipes, anyone got any info?

I say LTs if you can find them for a good deal and you'll probaby make some cash back by selling your mids.

All the tests I've ever seen on mids on anything they were lucky to gain 15HP max. Usual gain was in the 8-12hp range. Not worth the money and effort to install. Longtubes can range from 25-40 HP gain.

I had a catted y-pipe for my pacesetters custom made. I think i spent 160 bucks on the cats alone only for one of em to burn up on me in two months... i ended up just hacking them back out. I cant remember what the total bill for my custom/catted y-pipe was but i got the receipt at home. They tucked up nice though.

only pic i have of it with the cats still on:

I installed shorties on my car and I am getting rid of them for LTs as soon as funds allow! They make for a nice sound, but they don't really add anything for power.

I put shorties on my 86 5.0 Carb and it gained me a ton over stock, but longs may have been better. fficeffice" />>>
The real question though is, “is your headers your largest exhaust restriction and does your engine make enough power to fully utilize long tube potential”. Sorry I have not read up on your vehicle details. >>
If you have the spare money and time, I would go with long tubes, but not if the rest of your exhaust is only 2.5 inch. >>
