I troll on craigslist and online looking for parts 2-3 times a day. Usually look for parts for my car but also keep my eye open for something I can buy to flip which helps to defray car expenses. Well, about a week ago I saw an oddly worded post for some "new" LS2 heads and cam. The ad was worded, it seemed, by someone who didn't know much about the parts. It had a couple of grainy pics. And had a phone number that I texted and called. No response. after a couple of days I sent an email and included my phone number. Bingo. Got a quick call back. Noticed the phone number was similar to the one posted but off by 1 number. a typo. After asking a couple of questions I got the guy to check and they heads were 243 castings. The pictures showed non-stock springs and retainers. Hmmm. Made an appointment to see them the next day. Well, they were at a tire business in a not too great area of detroit, plymouth road and greenfield, but the business was right on greenfield and about a mile south of I-96. Made sure I had my 9mm with me with a spare loaded magazine. Felt a little more secure. Went there after work. saw the stuff and bought it right away.
Well, for all my trouble I ended up with a brand new in the wrapper pair of Livernois Motorsports Stage 3 cathedral heads. 2.02-1.575 stainless valves, dual springs good to .690 lift, full CNC with 220cc intake port and cut .015 on the deck. Perfect. Also a Livernois stage 2 LS 3 bolt cam. 236 duration, .600 lift and 114 cl. Also a pair of Livernois billet rocker stands. so what did all this good stuff set me back? Would you believe $550? Yep. Current retail is about $2500.
So for the dilemma? I originally bought it for my Camaro that is full bolt ons with a 224r cam and now has a SS3600 yank converter(that I also found on CL brand new for $460). But the financial side of me said I could easily flip it and put $1k into my "car account". Then another thought would be to keep it on the shelf in the basement and find that early 02-04 Z06 corvette I've always wanted and throw it on there with a FAST intake and new exhaust. time to make a decision.
The moral of this is that are deals to be found if you turn over enough rocks. I've gone and looked at enough garbage that the seller said was diamonds in the past, but this score definitely makes up for it.
