His would be too small for mine as well probably. I need to get under there and see how big it is. I might look into a Magnaflow maybe. I don't want it a whole lot quieter, just some.

yeah agreed Mark, Buying a "stock" muffler is about the only thing you really can do.
Does it have a CAT on it? If not adding a hi-flow cat, but that will be $$$.
I think you can add a resonator to your car as well, maybe that will help.
Not sure why Flowmaster gets such a bad rap.....look at the flow charts for their Hi performance mufflers,
there not as bad as most people make them out to be.sigpic

If you look at the charts the flowmaster doesn't get much better than stock. "Hi performance" and "flowmaster" doesn't belong in the same sentence.Originally posted by tenpin842 View PostNot sure why Flowmaster gets such a bad rap.....look at the flow charts for their Hi performance mufflers,

Maybe on Fbodies with the DUAL outlets, no - but the single outlets are fine (like what Craig has on his car), and any other Flowmaster is great.Originally posted by meissen View PostIf you look at the charts the flowmaster doesn't get much better than stock. Personally, I LOVED the sound of a '95 Z28 I went and looked at with BBK Headers and a Flowmaster cat back - it was LOUD, sounded awesome.Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

Correction, high performance and Flowmaster 80 series don't belong in the same sentence together. The 80 series is the commonly used single in dual out muffler on an f-body. Those mufflers, flow so close to stock that it isn't considered an upgrade. The rest of flowmasters products are fine.
Mark, a magnaflow is going to be just as loud. I'm telling you, you have the quietest aftermarket muffler on there right now. I completely agree that it needs to come off there. If it needs to be quieter, the first step is to put a stock muffler on. After that is to remove the headers. Also, look into what Todd said, a cat will really quiet down a car, and make it sound loads better.

We have flowmaster true duals on the Monte Carlo, 2 1/2" all the way back, and I don't think that's hindering it's performance any. It has more to do with what kind of setup you are running than anything. The single in-dual out setup is just awful, but a single-single flowmaster is going to flow a LOT better than what most of us put on our cars. If you want quiet, and don't mind a loss in performance, go with a stock cat-back. If you want high performance and don't mind the extra sound, either a better cat-back or a TD setup would work wonders.Originally posted by meissen View PostIf you look at the charts the flowmaster doesn't get much better than stock. Flowmaster mufflers have a good design for making the car sound good, but as for flow tests, they don't lie. I'd rather run Hooker Warlock mufflers than Flowmaster, but with the limited space under these cars, it's kind of hard to fit a pair of those down there. lolNick H.

Car is a single in and single out ATM. The the other tip is a fake which is going to change when I do change out the muffler.

Those don't flow bad, compared to the dual outlet.Originally posted by SoulTerror View PostCar is a single in and single out ATM. The the other tip is a fake which is going to change when I do change out the muffler.Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

I would just go stock and save for a cutout, dont waste the money on a magnaflow. that way you can have it ultra loud when the kids/wife arent around and be buck wild when you are on your own.
gotta be a stock system around for dirt cheap

I'm going to assume you don't have a cat installed if you are concerned about noise levels with a flowmaster muffler. With that being the case put a cat on and the car should be near stock noise levels with the cat back in place.Originally posted by SoulTerror View PostSo I have headers, not sure if there long or short, never looked and custom exhaust to a FlowMaster muffler with a single out. Here is a video:
How can I quiet it down some? It's too loud for my daughter. I do want to get an electric cutout down the road, but for now I need a cheaper way to quiet it down, but I also don't want to choke the engine. I might be willing to trade someone mufflers if they'll pay to have them swapped, or do it them selves if they have the skills.
