  • Header install goes to Sh%t!

Ok so i tried to install the hooker longtubes i bought and the drivers side manifold its touching the floorboard. What can i do to fix this? I cant even get a clamp in there. Someone told me that the passenger side motor mount could be faulty which is causing this. I checked the mount and didn't notice anything wrong.

Option 1: BFH to the floorboard
Option 2: cut and re-weld primary tubes on the headers so that they're angled lower or so that the collectors are lower
    Option 3: relocate motor mounts

#1 would be the easiest but not for the faint of heart. There's probably other options I'm not thinking of though.

    Used to own a Firebird.

None of those options sound good to me. Even if you BFH or cut and re-angle its going to bang on the floor boards hard under any kind of acceleration. You need new motor mounts period. Buy some polys and be done with it.

yep must be the motor mounts, I 've never heard of hookers doing that on an LS1.

Poly ones are the best, but can be considered a little harsh for people worried about a soft and cushy ride. Your gonna feel your engine more through the frame if that makes any sense. The motor mounts are not to difficult to do, will probably take 2 hours taking your time. Make sure your headers are the correct headers aswell before going and doing all this work.

mann....it took me half a day to put those damn headers in, and now the gasket might not be as good if i take it out again....theres no way to do it w/o taking out the headers?

the gaskets are metal and reusable.

if you used the GM mls ones you can reuse them
you shouldnt have to remove the headers but it is much easier if there out. but you have to lift the engine so if they are touching the floor already you might have to anyway

I really don't think the poly ones will cost very much more than the stockers, and both will last a very long time.

I agree go with the poly mounts, they are like $60 from CS3 and they just go right into your stock clamshells, you just have to drill out the rivets. When I installed mine I never noticed any added vibration and they keep the motor from flexing so much.

im just afraid i will install the motor mounts and its not going to fix the issue...you guys really think the mounts will fix the header issue? I tried taking a huge pry bar and prying the engine a little and it didnt seem to move the header much.
