I had a custom y-pipe made after i installed the headers, and while it fits under the car very nice ive never been happy with it. I asked for a mandrel bent merge pipe and this is what i got. IMO the guy butchered it, you cant see it very well in this pic.. (he did have to fit cats though, theyre removed now). anyway its darn near a T-pipe... the two banks crash together at more than a 90 degree angle. I was thinking i could probably pick up a bit of horsepower, and make my exhaust note sound quite a bit cleaner if i had it redone with a 3, or even 4" merge section. what do you guys think? and how much would it cost? any recommendations for a shop? i probably wont be messign with it until spring though, i only have thanksgiving weekend left with insurance.

yeah it definately looks like it could come together at a better angle. mine is going to be redone over the winter too. everything from the headers back. let me know what you decide to do.sigpic

Joel.... im taking the Y pipe off my car. If you want i can cut off the y merge and you can use it. Its a Magnaflow Y merge. LMK if your interested and i can hack it off and bring it to BWW. Heres a pic. you can just have it welded up.

The kind of merge Jonny and Sean have will make the most HP and sound the best, When the 2 pipes come together at any angle accept parallel it creates turbulence making the car sound worse and not make the HP it could. Magnaflow and Flowmaster have the 2 nicest merges
One of the nicest non custom piece's

Some people even believe that a properly built Y-pipe will scavenge and make just as much if not more HP than an X-piped set up.Last edited by c0ncEpT; November 6th, 2007, 02:16 PM.

Jonny's is a collector pipe, not much of a merge pipe. Merge pipes supposedly make the most horsepower and look a little more like this:Originally posted by c0ncEpT View PostThe kind of merge Jonny and Sean have will make the most HP and sound the best, When the 2 pipes come together at any angle accept parallel it creates turbulence making the car sound worse and not make the HP it could. or this mufflex y-pipe:

i figure i should kill a few birds with one stone while im doing this. I was thinking about going 4" back to my cutout... good idea or no? Id either have to reduce before the cutout, or have a custom cutout made to fit my 3" DMH.
I also need to have a bung welded in for my wideband sensor.Last edited by JoeliusZ28; November 6th, 2007, 03:11 PM.-Joel

hmm, i say staying 3" will be fine. Your not a huge single turbo or anything that needs the least restriction. I think the 3" would be best and you wouldnt gain anything going to a 4" other than losing clearance. Leave the cutout for the free flowing and then make the rest of the exhaust as good sounding as you can. So when yuor cruising, it sounds the best, but when you want max potential, flip that cutout switchsigpic
