  • Anyone run NGK TR-6 plugs?

I just picked up a set of these I was wondering if the colder spark will effect streetability/daily driving? If so they are not going in. I also have read about these plugs fouling and having to replace them more regular then delco's? Any truth to this or just more LS-tech kids babbling about shit they dont know about.

If a plug is too cold, then yes, it'll foul up much quicker.

    Are you experiencing spark knock?

3-4 years ago these were the plugs to have for nitrous.. I ran them N/A and on spray with no issues.. If you are spraying, a non-projected tip is now the way to go.. I used to run TR-6's, now I run NGK BR7EF's for N/A and Nitrous...

just more tech kids babbling. If you run them on a naturally aspirated setup then I would open the gap up to about .040"-.042"

not in regards to spray(HSW and Nitrous outlet now recommend the non-projected tip).. I don't know his set up, N/A, agreed...

Why do you need a range colder?

              ^ What he said.

A loose rule of thumb is that you need to go 1 heat range colder with the plug for every 100hp you add. IE your car made 290 stock and it makes 490 now you need to run 2 heat ranges colder which puts you into a 7 heat range plug.

Again this is a loose rule. You should make a pass and pull the plug to read it but this way is a good starting point.

Interesting. My car does not like TR55s, it definitely prefers the TR6s and a conservative gap. but then again this is an optispark we are dealing with.

he never asked about spray. Thats why my post was referring to an n/a use.

It is best to run as hot of a plug as you can for an n/a setup. A tr-55 or a tr-6 is a good choice. With a 55 I would gap it down some and a 6 I would open it up a touch. You will know if the gap is too wide and it blows out the spark.

I feel like a 7 is way too cold for 90% of n/a applications. Remember guys, there can be a small power benefit to be had by running the right plug, too cold and you are going to lose some power and run the risk of fouling them out

Thanks guys. The Br7 appropriatley gapped as Ryan stated is what I will run. Tr6's are going back.

Wont know if its to cold for N/A use until I drive the car and then check them. I know they are great for spray though but how often is that ever really used I am not trying to kill my drivability especially with my propane injection kit. Hopefully trying to get some better milage out of this thing this year. As well as the girls TBSS. That thing is a joke.
