• Anyone else have a bad experience on here with Phil? All seem pretty good...

Just fix the car Travis and bring it back to him (if you wish to that is)..

Enough feedback from some torque monster fbody owners to ease your mind a bit?

    • We'll since it seems like u all love that guy hear u go...when u take ur car to someone to have them tune it and before it's off the trailer he keeps cutting u down and ur car...That's good customer service right there. Next I pull it into the garage and all he is doing is still acting like a ass. I have heard that he likes to joke around but not when u have never met them and don't know how to read them. Then on his phone call he says this car is such a hoopty. That makes u feel good to hear. Then after all that good stuff he tells me to be gone like he is some king or something. All I know is that even my buddy he like wow that's how he talks to people I am surprised he don't have any black eyes cause he is a dick but whatever. Then when I got to pick it up he tells me it's over heating...ummm ok I get it home and ya blew a radiator hose off. Yep that would do it but what guy NEVER turns a wrench when paid to tune a car. That's what tuning is am I right. But it all could have gone a lot smoother if he wouldn't have been such a dick and treat me and my car like shit. He was like this ain't perfect and this ain't either. We'll if my car was perfect I wouldn't be there would I. But i did my best to have it done right before I took it there. All in all he might be Tuning god or whatever but he needs to talk to people with some respect.

      • importkiller do yourself a huge favor, go talk to Rich at Motor City Speed. They work on all kinds of builds, on any time or dollar scale. When I talked to Phil on the phone he didn't give me much time and was just rude, wouldn't even do a bench tune or delete vats until I had the car there. IF he can't give me 15 mins of his time why would I give him my hard earned money and my time.

        • From what I've heard you pulled up 1 hour late with wires already melted on the wastegate discharge and manifold. Steam ports hooked up to the overflow, TB nipple hooked right up to the valve cover with no check valve and all kinds of other stuff out of order. He tried to tune it with what he was given and it started over heating. Told you to come pick it up and you showed up an hour late for that to.

I saw the text messages and he never said anything about it being a hoopty. 2 sides to every story I guess.

ur ur right I was a hour late due to 59 expressway was shut down to one lane and sat there forever. And the vent tube hooked on the throttle body I didn't know that couldn't be there or I would have not had it hooked up. As for the wires they touched the down pipe over by the waste gate and were stuff to it yes and once again If I would have noticed I would have moved them but also my car ain't totally done it still needs some finishing touches. So once it got back from being tuned I would have fixed those issues cause I would have found them. But I ain't ever had a turbo car so didn't know all that I needed to do. But when I picked it up he was very cool and helpful then after a phone call from Ken. I just wish he would have been like that in the beginning cause what he said was good advice.

and there is where you went wrong. phil does not like to work on cars that are almost done with multiple issues. he wants to work on cars that are done, and dont need a ton of finishing touches. that just delays and creates more problems for him.

i went through this myself and figured out how he works when i first brought my car there. had a few little things that needed to be finished. guess what they created problems for him and he wants able to tune it. told me all the things that i needed to fix, i drove back 3 hours picking up and went home, fixed them then brought it back and had him finish it.

                    • here is a million dollar idea, why doesn't phil have a sign made, that says don't waste his time in your car isn't running without issues and make sure everything is in its place also hooked up properly.

I mean you get more bees with honey then you do with vinegar.

Or everyday wrench turners may not know they have an issue until its hooked to a computer, hence what he gets paid to do. Its more of a customer service attitude and respect then actually getting it tuned.

                      • Geez, I committed every sin in the book and he was still cool with me. I was an hour late because of traffic and my trailer giving me trouble. Then again, I did at least contact him and let him know that I was running late. He also found some issues on my car that could really only be found by plugging in a computer. No worries, got it as close as he could and told me how to fix it then finished it when I brought it back. Hell I tried to replace the non-working IAC in his driveway to save him time while I waited for him to come out and he almost shit a brick when he saw me turning the wrench because if I'd have finished he would have had to start all over with the idle tune. Still never gave me shit, never was a dick. In fact he was quite friendly. Maybe you rubbed the guy the wrong way too? :dunno:

                        • i didn't waste my time going there, i knew that with under 5 minute phone call. here is an example, I been dealing with Rich at Detroit Gear box, had 3 phone calls with him. Each call was greater then 20 mins. A simple phone conversation goes a long way.

Phil has always been good to me. jokes around ALOT and can easily be taken as being a dick. but he really is a good guy ive changed multiple parts in his garage when i showed up to drop off my car. he was more than happy to help me or get me tools i needed. but he does not get paid to do the mechanic shit associated with it. he's done more than his fair share on my car mechanic's wise when it had issues when he had it, but major stuff or cleaning your messes up are not on his list to do thing.

he also is very picky on the things he works on. he likes nice tidy cars, and people with their ducks in a row. period.

but I'm here telling other how shitty his customer relations is.
