Try going around the vacuum lines and intake with some carb cleaner to see if the idle changes. Probably a vacuum leak.

It's not cheap (like $150 I think) but if you go to O'Reilly they will let you "rent" their OBD diagnostic scanner. The way their tool rental works is you buy the scanner, go home and use it, and then bring it back and return it and they refund your money. So essentially it costs you nothing, but you still have to have the $$ to pay for it up front in case you don't bring it back.

I would do this first -- your PCM is willing to give you the information on what it is not happy about since it is throwing the Service Engine Soon light on, start there because it's the easiest - plug in the diagnostic scanner and see what it's complaining about. It might only be the EGR, but it might be something else that will point us in a different direction.

This is just the car telling you it wants headers, cant breathe through those crusty manifolds actually on that note theres no possibility of a clogged cat is there?

If car was running fine why did you take egr off? did you delete AIR as well? One thing you did not send is picture of EGR tube that connects to exhaust man on passender side, you sent pic of tube but I mean where tube connects to exhaust manafold.
If you unplug the maf the car will run in speed density mode, however. Might be worth a shot.

Good idea on the cats, I've heard of clogged cats causing a bunch of issues.

Our neighbor just had a clogged cat, I would say its a strong possibility.

Still need to get the car scanned though.

Car has no cats, just a muffler out back. Been this way for two years so it's not that.

Joel, I'm picking up some pacesetter LT's from Kammi tomorrow at Milan, excited, but at the same time, if the car won't run it doesn't matter. When I unplugged the MAF it didn't hardly want to start, but it's been doing that, just seemed worse without it(tried that last night during all this crap).

Larry, I capped that off at the manifold where the EGR pipe went to if that is what you were wondering about. I do have a laptop, a pretty spiffy one too
My neighbor has this Snapon diagnostic machine, but I cant get him off his a** to come over here and hook it up, and they are LT1 guys to the core! So i probably should order that cable and download the program.
I deleted the EGR because I'm getting headers tomorrow and don't need it anymore. The AIR was deleted last summer. Now.. hypothetically speaking, if that cap was not on the manifold where the EGR piped in at, wouldn't the car still run? It would just be like a hole in the manifold right? I put gasket sealant on the cap but it burned off within the first couple minutes of the first startup about a week ago. And it has been getting worse the more it runs. I need to get a actual gasket in there, but that wouldn't cause this would it? Hell my manifold bolts were finger loose and it still ran like a top!

Brian, the money is not an issue, I might look into that. My brother has a little OBD2 scanner that should provide the codes. That should be sufficient right?

Greg, I can't go around checking vacuum leaks because the car doesn't even want to run now. When it does it is very rough and dies seconds after start up(while still at 43ish psi for fuel)!

              Latest update:
I put 5 gallons of 93 octane fuel in her today to ween out the possibility of low fuel. I knew this wouldn't be it because it still had good pressure at the rail, but it at least provides peace of mind.. in that department anyway. I primed the fuel pump 3 times then fired her up. It started decently but ran very poor for about 20 seconds then died. I have checked every single thing I can imagine that's under the hood. All the connections, all the vacuum lines, all the fuses in both compartments...

Please see my Project thread of 4th gen dash removal, literally everything I have done in the last two months is in that thread! Everything!! I'm going to start with a code scanner and go from there.. Thanks again guys and I'll keep ya updated.

Ps, I will post anything to resolve this. if you need a video or pic of ANYTHING to help, please let me know and I'll post it within hours.

Just to make sure it isn't flooding out since the fuel pressure is going up to 50psi, try starting the car with the accelerator all the way to the floor. It's how you force the car into clear flood mode, it'll actually turn the fuel injectors off while it tries to start so if it's flooded it won't add more fuel in. The tricky part is as soon as you start it your RPMs will shoot sky high so be quick to let up off the gas

Also - if it is dying because it's getting flooded, you're definitely going to want to check your oil and make sure it doesn't smell like gas in case any fuel in the combustion chamber is washing past the rings and getting in the oil.

I need some pics of girls, that will help me solve this problem.

As Joel said unplugging the MAF creates a MAF failure which the PCM switches to Speed Density mode. Which uses the VE tables and the IAT sensor to determine the amount of fuel to add, obviously the o2s then dictate if more or less is needed.

If its doing it cold then the o2s are heated up, so its not an o2 issue. EGR usually operates when cruising.

It could be a bad fuel pressure regulator. A 24lbs injector at 43.5psi is a 24lbs injector, but at 50psi it acts like a bigger injector say a 27lbs. This is because obviously the injector is going to open the same amount of times, with higher pressure more liquid will be pushed through in the same amount of time, thus flooding the engine.

the reason I asked about the egr tube on the exhaust man is that will cause your exact problem. You would have to be is closed loop though. air sucking in exhaust manafold with tell o2 its running lean and enrich fuel mixture. Yours is doing it right away so that leads me to think the maf is signaling wrong amount of air. Thats why I suggested data logging, I have a simular problem and have learned a lot with the help of the crew on here.

The days of a distributor and just simple vacuum leaks are gone sadly, unless you convert over to a carb setup!

Okay.. forget about the fuel issue for a minute, I'm starting to think that's not it for some reason. I noticed it doesn't really increase until after the motor starts to die. At this point, the fuel pump goes back to "prime" then shuts off, which spikes the pressure to 59 for a sec. The pump routine is prime-run(pump)-prime-off.. i think. This is starting to seem like a bad ICM imo. Im about to throw an icm and new coil on there for the hell of it. Anyone have a spare icm lying around? there close to 100.00 new!

That's what I said like 20 posts ago! Forget the fuel pressure!

Sounds like your on the right track, would be really helpful to see a data log tho.
