  • 5.3 or 6.0?

depending on my compression test, i might be throwing out the ls1 and upgrading. what would i be better off with? a 5.3 or 6.0 truck motor? dont have the money for an ls2. which motor is better for boost? which one is more reliable/holds more boost/hp? i can put my 317 heads and stock intake on it.

317's on a 5.3 get you down to like 8.1:1 SCR. The car will be a roach out of boost but would be able to take quite a bit of boost.

I would say you probably cant go wrong either way, but a 5.3 with 317s should take the most boost. If you look at 6.0s stay away from the lq9 thats gonna have a lot higher compression that what your looking for.

I'd get whatever is cheaper, most likely you'll find an iron 5.3 so the block strength is there for either motor. What size are your turbos?

Leak down will tell you where and how much of a leak you have.

Either one is fine. The 5.3 is a little strong of a block just because of the amount of cylinder wall in there still. When I was looking for an iron block I happened to find my 5.3 the day I cracked my alum block so I went with that and had my car running again in 5-7 days lol

                    I'd do a 5.3. If I ever hatch my LS1 I'm gonna get a 5.3 and pulley down.

yeah, a leak down test will tell you where your leak is, whether piston rings or valves.

I would do a 5.3 as well. 6.0 is too common.

                        Hell look into a 4.8.

6.0 too common? 5.3 was the most mass produced genIII engine I picked mine up for $212 on ebay with 44k miles. I had to pay a few hundred to ship it, but still.

How many 5.3 ls powered cars on the site?

Only one that I know of was Sman and he moved onto a 6.0 I believe.

6.0 is a very common swap into an fbody. 5.3 are making their way into every thing but most people figure for the extra hundred bucks go with the 6.0.
