If you think I did it for weight your mistaken I know that stuff didn't weigh anything I did it to clean up the engine bay and make working on the motor easier. It's amazing how much room it frees up.

Cutting the heater box is one of the best things you can do IMO. Not only does it clean up the engine bay like you wouldn't believe but the ease of working on the car has to go way up.

If you could, please post these pics. I removed my AC last summer, but didnt remove the box and all the junk at the firewall. Just wasnt to confident on what to cut and not cut. If you could put up some pics, that'd be great! Thanks man.

Here are a few pics of my progress so far I still have to clean up the box completely to the firewall and clean (the fiberglass makes a mess).

Holy crap that's a mess! You know it's a lot easier to take the dash and heater box right out of the car, considering the delete plate mounts on te inside of the firewall

Not if your keeping the heat lol, I have an idea about mounting the plate and sealing it up tight. I won't be the first to do it.

Umm.... The engine bay side Of the firewall is not flat. It has a lip on it. I still have heat in my car (i know im not the first either, i got the idea from Joe @ Stenod) and have the plate on the inside sealed against the heater box with panel bond. I used a grinder and opened up the passage behind the plate. There is some room behind the plate for the fan to push the air through. Then with the engine bay all painted the delete plate just blends away

I used panel bond around the perimeter of the heater box against the delete plate. as highlighted in pink lol. there's also an oval I cut out for the two hard lines that go through to your heater core. The yellow is where I opened up the box. there is enough room there for the fan to push air through.

I know what you did Matt and I know about the lip I'm going to use some foam in the "channel" and then bolt a plate on top of that lip. I plan on notching the heater box the same way you did and then sealing that cut with some tin. It will look no different than yours and I won't have to go through pulling the dash which personally terrifys me.

Here are a few more pictures I found. He used what looks like a dremel with a flexible extension on it.

it not to bad at all actually. I just put mine back together today once you take it apart and see how it goes its not hard. I think it took me like seven hours or so to take it off because i did not know what i was doing i also looked up on ls1tech on how to do and found a step by step on how to saved my butt. after its off though the heater box is literally right there. And i well post those pic when i get back under the hood this week.

Need those pics dude! I have my dash laying in my garage, and my camaro is gutted. Just want to see how it's done first before i mess something up. Complete dash removal took me less than two hours, but getting it back together seems impossible. Im deleting the air bag, that's gotta be about 20lbs. The whole dash assembly is an easy 50lbs. That things a tank. I took some pics too if anyone wants to see it apart.

sorry man i got sent out do to the fact that we had a bird go down so i am off base for awhile. I used a dremel and cut small pieces off at a time until i got to the two bolts to unbolt the a/c condenser. than you can cut the complete other side off and keep cutting slowly until you hit the fire wall.
