Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Compressor is only thing that has weight. the evaporator coil in the dash only weighs about 6 oz, the condenser coil in front of radiator weighs about 2 lbs. Compressor probably goes about 45-50 lbs. Even the pulley is free wheeling when A/C is not on, so no real drag.sigpic

If you have the dash out you better be pulling the heater box and cutting it flush with the firewall. There is like 10 bolts you need to remove along with the coolant lines going to the heater core.
You also need to notch the inside of the box to give the blower a passage to more the air now that the delete plate is installed.

Lot of work for minimal results cutting the AC core out. I'd just remove everything from the core forward.- Brian Meissen

True - I think removing the AC at all is kinda pointless. Sure you save 50 pounds and it does clean up the engine bay, but now (at the very least) you've lost defrost. So when you're out at Woodward on an otherwise nice day and a freak rain storm pops up and you're driving home in a hail storm and your windows are completely fogging up because the AC system isn't working, it's not a fun drive... ...and that's from experience, if you can't tell
I was trying to navigate through the street as Angie was having to unbuckle her seat belt and climb forward to keep wiping down the inside of the windshield so I could see where I was going.
Like my dad said - when the AC is off the pulley is free spinning so it's not like you have drag on the system, you're really only losing 50lbs and a cleaner engine bay. Which don't get me wrong, I definitely appreciate a clean engine bay...Last edited by meissen; February 23rd, 2012, 09:23 AM.- Brian Meissen

I pulled my dash out and cut the AC portion of the heater box out. I haven't hooked my heat back up but all I need to do is run two lines as I opened up a hole to let the heater ports through.. Getting that cut out makes for a much cleaner engine bay! Makes head swaps and plug changes a lot easier. You can kinda see the two holes poking through behind the trans funnel

I'm not sure what you mean by that because 3 of the 5 cars I've owned haven't had AC and I've had no problems defrosting the windshield in all 3 of them?Originally posted by meissen View PostTrue - I think removing the AC at all is kinda pointless. Yes your losing the evaporator but from my experience it makes little to no difference when defrosting the windshield.
