i've never rebuilt an engine before. done heads up, and arp rod bolts but thats it. how hard is it to do? i know i need to atleast drop the k member to get to the oil pan off. does the motor need to be taken out and ripped apart? like i said, the car is running great, holds 12 lbs and roasts the tires thru 4th gear like it always has lol98 z28, m6, monster clutch, eibach pro kit, custom twin turbo setup, 317 heads, z06 valve springs, arp rod bolts, 512rwhp at 10lbs. cobra eater

To me it sounds like excessive blow by.
Motor bolts to the k-member, k-member bolts to the car. So - motor will have to come out. Get an engine stand and tear it down. You're looking at $475 just in a re-ring kit, and that's the super cheap route.

Well, if you wanted to go super[duper] cheap...you could just hone the cylinders and re-ring the pistons for $300 ($100 for rings, $200 for a gasket set)
How many miles are on that motor?

i bougth the car with 98k. its at 118,9xx right now. been boosted for 17 or 18k of that. the other night racing a trailblazer ss i remember looking at my boost gage and it was 15 or 16psi.. not sure if its because it was colder out or what. but i've never seen it hit that before. its never gone past 12. thats what my waste gates are set for. that mighta done it to the motor.. if i do anything, it'll probly be a 5.3 or 6.0 and get rid of this motor. compression test tomorrow.98 z28, m6, monster clutch, eibach pro kit, custom twin turbo setup, 317 heads, z06 valve springs, arp rod bolts, 512rwhp at 10lbs. cobra eater
