I wouldn't fret too much over the oil considering its a roller valvetrain

TJ should be able to get you a base tune, I would not run the car without one for any extended period of time. Once he has that on drive it around and get the car completely up to temp. I personally beat on my car to break it in, Phil retuned it with a fresh motor and I had no problems with that just used non-synthetic oil and did a couple low mileage oil changes. Now I'm back to synthetic. Don't take it from us all though listen to everyone else and talk with the builder and the tuner and see what they recommend.Doing less with more

Wow...That kinda sucks....he's charging you $50 for something he would do anyways. I understand the man has to be paid, but that seems a bit much.Originally posted by Formula Z View Postdilemma diverted!
talked to tj and he will put a base tune on my pcm for $50 so i can heat cycle the gears. now just to find time to get it out to him this week between 8 and 5sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56

agreed but usually when a tuner does that they just deduct that 50 bucks out of the total cost for the tuneOriginally posted by WMCCjames View PostWow...That kinda sucks....he's charging you $50 for something he would do anyways. I understand the man has to be paid, but that seems a bit much.

no do not beat on it.. its just a base tune basically for idle and low throttle just so u can drive it. i would not recommend beating the shit out of it.. if you just want to heat cycle the gears just go drive it for a good 10 miles or so and it should be fine.. and then park it and wait til u have to bring it in for the tuneOriginally posted by Formula Z View Postyeah he mentioned that it would be deducted and sorry i forgot to add that in my post. so with the base tune am i allowed to beat on it some to get the rings seated? guess ill have to ask tj about that while im there

thanks sean! so one 10 mile ride will do? that wont mess with the ring seating much? and i wont beat on it. im trailering it to the dyno so it will be the only time its driven. i also forgot to mention that they are american axle gears which are what gm uses correct? and with lucas synthetic gear oil. i just wanna do this right the first time. the car has been down way to long. and im also sorry for all the stupid ass questions. this is my first time doing something like this.sigpic

you should be fine.. when i put the gears in my 10 bolt i never even heat cycled them.. just went out and drove the car and beat the snot out of it.. they were still quiet as a mouse when i sold the rear end..
the gears in my 9 inch never got heat cycled either.. they are still quiet too.. i dont think u have much to worry about

You will be fine with the rings....what kills the rings is firing up a new motor and letting it idle and only doing light load while driving. When you drive the car....just avoid hammering to the point where it goes into open loop. As long as it stays in closed loop the tune should be close enough for it to find 14.7:1. Do you have a wideband?sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56

Haha...you never put enough miles on it for it to be an issue. By heat cycling the gears your are ensuring they last a good many years. Has nothing to do with noise.Originally posted by kammi10 View Postyou should be fine.. when i put the gears in my 10 bolt i never even heat cycled them.. just went out and drove the car and beat the snot out of it.. they were still quiet as a mouse when i sold the rear end..
