trying to figure out break in requirements. first off what kind of oil? i was told rotella t was sufficient but then i find out its the wrong rotella. well i bought some lucas break in oil today just in case. is that good enough? also my rear diff was rebuilt and had 3.73s installed. whats the break in procedure for that? i bought lucas synthetic fluid for that. i can drive the car around this little town for a second right just to make sure all is good, just without beating on it. i really dont even want to do that because i want it to run the least amount before the tune?? will the rear be good to wot that soon? just getting butterflies and the engine isnt even here yet lol

Different cam now, right? Probably would drive it around a bit first on a partial throttle tune.

The motor can be beat on almost right away IMO. The gears need to be heat cycled a few times tho. Take the car for a nice drive and let it cool over night.

yeah vinnie ive read that a couple times, and yes a much bigger cam. i just dont want the rings to seat before the wot pulls. so somehow i need to heat cycle the rear gears without getting the rings seated, and all this without a proper tune. scary shit. i dont want all this time and money be a bust

Keep moderation in mind when driving. Let things settle in, then you can go berzerk. I usually drive "normal" for the first 1500 with a regular fossil oil, then switch it to synth it should be good. The modration should be good for the rear too. Shouldn't be mandatory, but it is wise to do everything to protect the money spent.

We break engines in on the dyno and it takes about an hour. I can tell you, there aren't any WOT blasts in that hour. Change the oil, then you can do what you want. I would inspect the filter before doing so.

No, you want to seat the rings as quickly as possible. If they don't seat quickly, they will glaze...ask me how I know. Reading and taking advice from the internet is a crap shoot. There is good advice and just plain very poor advice out there. Your best bet is to talk with the engine builder and follow his recommendation...that way when stuff goes wrong you will have a leg to stand on. The gears need heat cycles though...no way around it.

heat cycling the gears is something that can be done on the dyno maybe?? definately going to see what the builder says about breaking it in. is the rotella t ok with the additive?

No. You need to allow them time to completely cool down.

correct.. you will prob have to drive the car easy for a few miles to get some heat in them and then park it.. your pcm has a base tune on it for your changes doesnt it? if it does it should be fine for a few miles.. if not bring it to tj and have him put a base tune on it so u can at least drive it a little

no base tune here, unless the pcu will do it solo.

any idea what thats gonna cost me?

this is getting more stressful by the minute

its best to call the tuner and ask him what it would cost.. he's going to have to put on it anyway before he begins so he'll just have to do one beforehand.. he will need a starting point before he begins anyway
