It is suprising! seems like a lot of peeps think you can't have a fast car with A/C in it! Only advantage is removing coil in heater box that sticks out into engine bay, make that a lot cleaner. There is no load on engine when compressor not on its just an idler pulley when off. There is about a 50 lb weight savings on removing the compressor though. so thats the pro and con of it. Oh! one advantage to A/C is getting caught in summer rain storm and running defroster to keep windsheild clear.

But defrost will still work without AC

I don't think anyone is arguing that. I know i could have a fast car with A/C.

However if I kept A/C I would need to:

        1) work around it all time: spark plugs, headers, rocker adjustments, etc.
        2) find a different location for my power steering and oil coolers. Removing the condenser opens up a perfect place for those. (this is a big one for me)
        3) put more effort into my tune so that the AC compressor engagement doesnt interfere with my idle.
        4) carry around the extra weight all the time.

When I am using my car for the purpose I am, those three things make it more of a cost than a benefit to me.

it does, but defrost works about 1000% better with the compressor in operation. Ive tested it on my car using the disable switch I had in place for running my wideband through the A/C sensor. You need dry air to clear moisture effectivley and that where the dehumidifyimg of the compressor comes in. Think about when u breathe on glass and you'll realize that humid air doesn't clear moisture well... it can even contribute moisture.

Oh I understand it works better with the AC, my point was it just still works without it! But seriously we are talking Larry's car here, I bet I could count on one hand how many times it has been driven in the rain by him. This years Summer M&G, last years Berger show (it was a LIGHT mist then)... My point is he prolly does not drive it much in the rain if at all.

I really dont think that taking a/c out of a care renders it to be "hacked" I took my time on mine and made my own plate out of 1/8" thick aluminum and had it powdercoated black. Heat and defrost works better than stock and I still retain full use of my HVAC vents.

I did it for looks more than weight. I have honestly never used a/c in the 2 years I have owned the car. Everytime I get the chance, the t tops are off.

Its up to you Larry, but if you dont have the motor out, then its impossible to get that ugly box out (other than coming in from the dash side)

i take the "deal with it" approach with girlfriends. They usually don't like smelling like 93 octane either

My daughter is 4 for one. Black car with no AC get very hot! Also my wife doesn't do very good in the heat as well. Mostly my daughter I'm concerned about though.

understandable! If you want to make me an offer on my parts you are welcome to. I took care not to damage anything and I am pretty much 100% set on never re-installing it already.

Thank you for all the input guys, appreciated.. As I stated earlier, I am just going to leave it in for now.. It was a thought that came in my head while I was prepping the intake for removal.. After seeing the write up, I have decided against it.. I understand I can pull it from the inside with the dash removed, but don't want to do that either.. I will work on polishing the lines and condenser and make it look nice for now.. This car has been driven 12K since I bought it 6 years ago, has only seen rain 3 times.. twice for 2 separate M&G's and 28th street cruise.. I understand completely that it is just a car, but I bought it knowing it would rarely see rain and never see snow.. To date, car has never seen snow, first 3 years were in Fla, next 2 in storage, then I bought it.. Anyways, time to head to the hotel and start partying for OZZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
