  • LT1 Tune up advice needed

Hey guys. I need a little advice on tuning an LT1 Trans Am. It has 106K miles on the original plugs and wires and I want to have them changed. Other than a PCV valve and maybe a professional injection clean is there anything else I should replace ? What's the deal with the Optispark ? does it have a cap and rotor like a regular distributor or should I leave it alone. I hear people say if it's not broke don't fix it, especially with optispark.

I would just leave the opti be. If you havent in a while I would change the fuel filter.

Ever used seafoam? Might consider that as well

it takes about 4hrs on stock exhaust to change plugs and wires.

Have to remove the starter & Alt. to get at the plugs on the passenger side.

good like replacing wires on a stock car.... thats a job i would never want to do

maybe its obvious but i would clean the air filter and the maf as well. doesnt hurt to check the TB for buildup either. the only other thing is oxygen sensors.... which by that point you might as well just rip the manifolds out of your way and toss a set of headers in if you havent already

Plugs and wires can be a ***** on an lt1. Sometimes you have to go from the bottom on some of the plugs. Fuel filter is a piece of cake shouldn't take more then 45 minutes.

I forgot to mention that, but the car does have Pacesetter Long Tube headers.

headers will make plugs/wires MUCH easier.

If you want you can do what i did... I removed my stock looms and i just let the wires hang between the block and the headers, only needed a couple zip-ties to keep them out of harms way, peice of cake.

Says the guy who won't let me change the fuel filter on my car. Been sitting in a box since before we got the car started and all I heard was "Do it later, do it later."

Yup.. mine was 10000000000000% x inifinity rusted so had to get a new line. Well had to get a new line because it twisted as I tried to wrench it off. I love two wrench jobs! haha

Got the tune up done. I had two broken plug wires. One was jumping spark to the header. Fuel filter was a 5 minute job for my brother in law. Only thing I didn't do yet was clean the injectors. It's running great, just the throttle pedal has some play now. Wondering if it was bumped during the PCV install. Also found out I'm leaking oil from the pan and it's a little rusty so I'm going to replace it. Do you guys thing I should replace the oil pump too, or leave it alone since I always have 40psi of oil pressure.

you have to yank the motor to do the pan. but the play could be from the cable not being seated on the TB correctly.
