Buy a 4l60E, but looking at spencers build it looks like the swap wouldn't just go right into my third gen. I would also have to pay for labor as well. I am going to talk to my mechanic about going 6.0 to see if it is a feasible project financially for me.
Thats what he did. He had the complete truck engine, but you have to change over to the f-body accessory drive. The trucks alternator sits too high and doesnt clear the stock hood, so unless you fabricate something thats your only option. I'm not trying to talk you out of the swap (although it seems like it hah), but really I just dont want you going and buying a truck engine and then be surprised when you have to change all this stuff and spend all this money to get it to work. Good news is that you could even re-use your 700r4 with the LS engine.

There's also a tutorial and how to re-work the harness with the 6.0 and mat it to the re-worked harness from the TPI. Although it may be time consuming, its free (for the most part). Or just send it to the guru on TGO who does it for a fee.

Dont forget about changing out the oil pan/windage tray/pickup tube. Truck pan=no bueno.

Good call! I've got so many parts piled up for my build I've just forgotten what all I have laying around to convert it. The cost is a bit more than you expect at first but the end result is well worth it. LS engines have way more potential. You'll have more people drooling over an lsx swap than a standard sbc setup.

If I had a better job I would do a "True Budget Build 5.3". Even with the stock cam that motor would be fun with LS intake, headers, and a tune. The torque management of the trucks 5.3 makes it a completely different animal I bet.

Depends what year truck. My dads 02 feels like the engine was designed to be an fbody. It would light stock the tires up from a stop or a roll no problem. I feel like you lose a lot switching from the truck intake to the LS, unfortunately.

I am confused I am trying to buy a home in like October, so the most I will have it like 5500.00 for the whole build, right now I only have 3500.00. I do want to do the lsx swap but I don't know if I will be able to afford it. I don't want to wait any longer to get this thing going as I have had the car almost two years now, and wasted alot of money just getting it to run excelllent in stock condition, not to mention when I got the car I had to put in new posi gears that costs 1300 dollars, for the stock gears I wish I could go back and at least go 3:73. It sound like this swap will cost more money & time then I am willing to wait so I don't know what to do. I guess I need to take my time & do it the right way the first time so I won't be tearing it apart again. My plan is to get the drive train to my liking this year and next year focus on the body & interior.

That motor looks really dirty for 25K to me.

04 thats 7 years ago. So less then 5K a year on a truck?

I totally would, but at this point, unless you want to pay me to do it(heftily might I add), I just dont have time any more, more than 1 fbody has had the heart ripped out of it in that shop, and hopefully, it wont happen again.

You can go the ls route within your budget, easily. Just got to find the right deal on a motor/trans and do the work yourself. I have alot more than that in mine, but I went about it a totally different way. Going very factory, AC, full electronics, etc.

Off course I would pay lol! But I am still deciding whether or not to do the swap I will let you know what I decide. There is actually a guy who has a LS1 block on here for sale with the stock heads, rotating assembly, & cam for like 700 complete. What do you think about that deal?
