  • Smans 5.3 build up!

Ok so I got a good start on the motor tonight, got the harness off of it and holy crap! Theres a few wires in there! Gunna need some help with that, especially since some of it doesnt match the car (being a truck motor).

What I started with, you can see the 6 in the background.

Kinda leary about all these wires..........

862 Heads, not sure what the deal is with them, but thats what I have.

Pulled a valve cover, all looks good.

Wow, there actually was a motor in that big mess!

So I got all the accessories and brackets off, along with all of the harness and hoses. Also pulled the intake(with TB and fuel rails), and the manifolds. Only thing left to pull off if the crank pulley, but I dont have a 26mm socket, Ill have to pick one up tomorrow.

Also gunna try and get the pan off tomorrow.

Once I got the acc. brackets off I checked the block to verify displacement and it says 4.8/5.3. Ooooook? So which is it? Any way to tell for sure?

What do y'all think so far?

I got it cheap, and when its done ill have a 327 Camaro, not exactly many 327 4th gens rolling around, so its pretty unique and cool in its own way.

Also, have you checked the price of an ls1 lately? There stupid expensive, I just dont understand how there going for that much.

I believe the truck motor are rated lower hp and higher torque due to the really long intake runners on the intake, there like uber long compared to an ls1 imho.
