Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

I already had most of the prep work done, for taking the old turbo kit off and stuff i already had the radiator out, ac off, and basically the entire front of the bay clean. So that helped a lot, I would say it took about 5-6 hours to get it out where we stood, could have shaved at least an hour off that if any of us were a little more familiar with pulling the 4lshitty-e. Wasnt too bad. From a complete running car, to yanking it out the top, i would guess it would take probably 10-12 hours, but my car was already in a good state to pull it with a lot removed already
Converters still on because its a stock piece of shit and wouldnt easily slide off, im going to pry it off today.
Head studs are a must...... Especially with boost, probably one of the best upgrades you can do...... also, i dont know about you but after pulling the stock heads off the stock motor out of the car, i would hate to have to change heads with motor in the car anyway..... those 20 huge bolts all needed a breaker bar on them to get loose and our engines bays arent exactly roomy....
Also FWIW, you can still swap heads with the motor in the car with head studs.....
I'm still confused on the converter....remove bolts and it falls off the flexplate....is it rusted or something?
I know headstuds are required for lots of boost.....just a PITA if you ever have to remove the heads with the motor in the car....it's just about easier to remove the whole motor.

I pried at it and it wouldnt budge. at first glance, we had the impression someone welded it... but it appears to be just stuck. what "bolts" are you talking about?
yea, that converter is a whore, im not even worried about it, it will come off.
The old motor was perfectly fine, just time for an upgrade. New motor has a forged bottom for more boost, good sized cam, better heads and valvetrain. I would LOVE to put the stock motor in my sonoma but that wouldnt be a good idea and would put me bankrupt. I'll more than likely hang on to it until i can find a local buyer for the longblock.
Wierd indeed...smack that pos with a hammer.
If you are not doing any trans work, I would highly recommend replacing the front seal before you put it all back together....chances are good it got effed when the converter came out of it.
when you put it back together put anti-seeze on the trans alignment dowels and the torque convertor pilot. makes things much easier.
I won't take heads off one with it in the car. I have studs and don't think its possible without taking the studs out
