Found this and thought I would post it.

Pennzoil & Quaker State (which is owned by Pennzoil) oil filters are the same as the Fram.

He says Fram is a bad filter. I've been running them since I could drive (only 2 years now) and haven't had any problem. I believe Jasen has been running them for awhile. So I don't know.

I have seen that article before, it's pretty interesting. I don't know how much I would trust one person's opinion but it's good to know nevertheless. Thanks for posting the link. I know I have a Firestone oil filter because I don't really change my own oil since I live in an apt.

I've always used Fram myself too, but in a v6 who cares what you use.

I try to avoid Frams if at all possible. I've read several things that say Frams are the worst filters. I've been running Purolator Pure One micronic filters now for about 8 years. It sucks that Meijer stopped carrying them. Now I have to go way out of my way to either an Advanced Auto or Pep Boys to pick them up. I think the Pure One filters were 2nd only to the Mobil 1 filters at like a third the price.

I recently did a bunch of research on this and yes I've ran Fram for years, yes there is still one in my car, but only until I change the oil. Fram has a cheap paper element. The problem with that is, they overcharge you for it and don't tell you its no better than a Duesch (or whatever that's called that Autozone carries) because its in a pretty orange package. There has also been problems with the paper element tearing and getting into main bearings and spinning the bearings.

From the reasearch I've done if I remember correctly, the Mobil 1 & K&N filters are the best, followed by the Purolater and Wix which is sold by NAPA as a NAPA filter. So I'll be going to the K&N filter and switching to Royal Purple from Mobil 1 when I do it . Not that there is anything wrong with mobil 1, I just want to try Royal Purple.

That's all i use is Royal Purple, its good stuff if you can afford $7 a quart, and for the oil filter i have always used Fram, never had any problems

Hell, Mobil 1 is around $6 a quart anyway, what's another $5-$6 for RP. I've never had a problem with any of my fram's either, just want to be sure, play it safe.

This is the very reason I will not use a fram filter. I have tried them a couple of times. The last one damn near cost me a engine in my Cutlass. nothing like finding bits of paper in the oil when changing it. Dropped the pan and cleaned out and flushed the engine. Luckily no major damage. FRAMs response to the problem "Sorry, But its Not our Problem". No more frams for me. I only use purolator now or AC if I have the dealer do it.

AC DELCO and MOBIL 1 are always a good decision... FRAM IS CRAP

I have been using K&N Gold in my 3.8l v6 since I bought the car back in 2002. No problems yet. No particals in oil when replacing it. Plus I love the socket end on the filter . I hate using oil wrenches.
