I think the 9in will work with the same length. The S60 requires a shorter driveshaft. You can just have them whack off some, weld it back and balance it though.

Not yet, but I would like to plan ahead. I'm pretty sure the aluminum one would twist like a coke can with a good launch on sticky tires, so might make sense to get something a little stronger now.

I talked to Strange and told them I wanted a driveshaft that would support over 1500ft lbs and they said it would be 400 bucks. 300 bucks you can get one that will support over 800ft lbs.

Whats a stock one rated at? Seems like 800 or even 1500 ft/lbs isnt very much if my car makes 350ft/lbs to the wheels in fourth gear, without adding a clutch dump on top of it

That I do not know. As far as I've heard the T56 is rated to 450ft lbs in Fbodies.

id think that rating is for the input shaft. Torque at the output shaft will be a multiplication of that in gears 1-3.

It has to do with the gearset too. The 93's with the steeper gears are rated at 400lbs because of that. Liberty confirmed this with me while discussing my transmission which is a 93 with the 2.97 first gear.

If you have the option, I'd go with a new or used driveshaft over a balanced one. One of the weights fell off mine a couple years after I had it balanced, causing me to have it balanced a second time. Just a PITA... and you have to be so careful every time you remove/install the driveshaft as to not knock it out of balance.

Interested in the aluminum vs. steel discussion...

Its likely the driveshaft is bent. You could have a shop check runout on it but, the damn things are cheap as hell.

Shame if it is, cause it would have to be the sligtest bit. but that would make sense.

Aluminum is for beer cans...fwiw I would go with steel. Oh, and a 9" uses the same length DS

How much for yours Jim? Is it stronger/lighter/ in any way better than a stock steel ds?

Looks like im going to add more weight to my heavy pig

                            Depends on the pinion yoke.

If the torque arm is moving around - fix that 1st.....then worry about the drive shaft.

Either get a poly bushing for it or if you can get it off the tail shaft.
