short version: sister get liscense says she wants a firebird, sister is moms favorite so gets what she wants, mom cant find cheap car which i told her she wouldnt, tells me to build one for her. therefore my ideas are hard at work. she seems serious now but a few weeks from now who nows just gotta see what im gonna get my hands into if she ends up buying stuff for this instead of going in blind with no clue.91 Trans am, 305, Lt1 cam, 24lb injectors, headers, SLP LM2, SW chassis, massive panhard, lowered, modded TPI, Tuned, 4.10s, Lincoln locked

ok so she wants a firebird and wants a thirdgen, or 4th gen? Because you can buy one for cheap, especially a v6 4th gen... By the time you buy a roller and buy a motor buy a trans and get it all up and running and presentable you could have bought a v6 4th gen already and had a lot less work and frustration. However back to the 4.3v6 why that motor? I mean if you just want a driver and its for your sister, get a 305 for probably about the same cost and a lot less work everything would be plug and play and you would be done in no time and it would not be a dangerous motor for your sister to own/drive. Also running properly and driven well a 305 and net "decent" MPG's for a v8.sigpic

because a 4.3 is actually a pretty good engine. yes i know you can get a 4th gen bird for the same but thats not how my mother sees it although ive explained it numerous times. then theres her complaint that all v8's are bad on gas and are too fast. trust me darren ive been there and back but when your truing to do something for someone else its more of what they want.91 Trans am, 305, Lt1 cam, 24lb injectors, headers, SLP LM2, SW chassis, massive panhard, lowered, modded TPI, Tuned, 4.10s, Lincoln locked

well in that case I'll just outright say it, your crazy to put a 4.3 into a thirdgen, there I said it. There are much better, more efficient and smarter ways of doing it. Now if you told me you where doing it to be "different" for some odd strange reason, ok I can appreciate different but your not, so its crazy. Talk some sense into them, if I was you I would be refusing to do such a thing. Its going to be a lot more work and a lot more headaches then your assuming to do that.sigpic

Go with a 3.8... way better gas mleage than a 4.3.

4.3 vs a 305
Same power
same MPG
Funny fact. My 94 blazer with the 4.3 vortec is rated at 200hp
My old 1986 IROC with a 305 TPI was rated at 190 hp
