newbie rear end upgrade questions!

i've tried searching and finding out what i need on here and ls1 tech, but cant really find much.. i have a 98 z28 m6. i want to be able to put some sticky tires and get into the high 10's this season. kind of leaning toward a ford 9" but am open to any other ideas (12 bolt or otherwise).

i'd like to do this as cheap as possible, but obviously i'm going to do it the best way possible. i dont have traction control anymore, and dont care about ABS.

from what i understand is tht if i get a ford 9" i need to get different wheels for the rear.

my car is my DD in the summer, and i take it to the track sometimes, and also wanna do some road course things. pretty stuck on 373 gears.

i'd like to come up with a plan of exactly what i need to buy and plan for, so i can save up and start ordering things.

You need a 9" with a Wavetrac. Really isn't any other differential that is going to stand up to an M6 wanting to go down the 1320 and crave up a road course. Start saving.

i dont have to change my vette rims with ford axle? isnt the bolt pattern different?

how do stock wheels work? i have 342 right now, and its ok. never had anything steeper..

i've done some reading on spools. arent they bad for road courses and street driving? i dont go to the track more then 3 or 4 times a year.

Spool won't work on a road coarse

For a 6 speed that is gonna hook and leave hard get 35 spline
The wave trac used to only come in 35 but also come in 31 now

Out of curiosity, what is usually the weak link in them compared to other rears when used with a 6-speed?

I know but he said as cheap as possible and cheap doesn't mean it will work well for every application.

Cheapest would be the S60 with the Strange S-trak differential - which is comparable or better than the wavetrac in strength. It's the standard diff in the S60 now - but it's like $900+ to add it to the 9".

The biggest reason I went with the MWC 9" - was price. By the time you add in a torque arm and all the other option it's not that bad. 9" parts are cheap and they are a breeze to work on.

FWIW - I must have gotten a good true track - I've beaten mine relentlessly and it's held up. So far that is.....
