anyone know of any good resources for a DIY 4L60e rebuild?

I've always used a GM service manual for a late 90's pick up. Very slight changes from one trans to another but the concept is the same. To be honest you don't really need a manual. Just a printed of torque sheet and make sure you lay the parts out in order. Last 4l60e I did I had tore down, parts replaced, and put back together in about 2 hours. Tear everything apart making sure you lay the parts in order, open the new parts package, start replacing parts in pile, put back together. Just make sure you soak the discs for a day or so.

Only thing I've always been told: Sunshell. There's one called "The Beast" for sale by oregon Performance trans off Ebay for like $60.

Ill consider it but im a DIY kinda guy. Derek tried calling him for me when we were doing my tuning and he didnt answer

and its not like my trans is blown or anything right now, im just doing some preliminary homework.

atsg has great step by step manuals. you can order them from summit racing and recieve them in 2 days, sometime the next day. make sure you get a clutch spring compressor. and have a good selection of picks and snapring pliers. if you can afford it a trans stand is the way to go. atsg stands for automatic transmission service group. good luck
4l60's are pretty easy. ive done probably a dozen. make sure you get the beast sunshell.

my transmission is either a lemon or my truck was a tow vehicle. I think the trans is a lemon because there have been others with the same problems. It has the worst/sloppiest shifts of any 4L60e ive ever driven and its been that way since the day i bought it in 2006 with 30k on it. Daves drives 10x better than mine ever did with 140k on it. Unless my foot is to the floor it is clunking around and sloppy as heck. I thought it was torque management, its not. And like i was saying before, derek and I determined it is slipping because adding some line pressure made it react about 10 times better... but now that doesnt seem to be having a lasting effect, so Id like to get through the summer with it and pretty much plan to do a rebuild in august before school starts. Even if its not blown I am completely sick of its mannerisms, and it eating my MPG. Ive read a shift kit will fix the slop in my shifts so I am at least going to do that this summer.

Also does anyone know if the friction plates and bands can be upgraded? I want something that is going to be solid and last.

My trans guy tells me that there is a Kevlar option for friction. I've also heard that if you put the Corvette servo mod in, a shift kit won't be needed.

ive already done the corvette servo. it just made my clunks faster

With updated bands and clutches, it should make the difference.
