i sure hope so - you would just think id have more of a problem at wide-open-throttle. My problems are all at part throttle. If i didnt have my BFGs it would be barking the tires on the 1-2 shift with my latest tune.

        thanks for all the info

i read the article about the 2-3 "flare" - i wouldnt say i have much of a flare but it is there. This 2-3 flare just sounds like it causes third gear to engage slower.... theres more to my issue than that. Ive seen transmissions do that before but still shift smooth otherwise and dont make any noise. Ive got the same issue everywhere from 1st to 3rd, upshift or downshift... its all sloppy as heck. And by sloppy i mean the truck seems to delay (hang at a constant RPM) before commanding a shift, and then when it does it clunks into the next gear. Every gear change sounds like someone under the truck gently smacking my driveshaft with a hammer. Shifts shouldnt make noise.

Also when i apply more throttle i dont get an instant thrust forward like you do in most cases - instead there is a delay while it thinks about what gear it wants and then usually clunks into whatever gear it feels best. its as though adjusting throttle "disrupts" it and it has to grumble at me everytime i do so. rarely do i ever hit the gas and the truck is content with the gear its already in - and just goes.

Im wondering if i have worn gears or something and the clunking i am hearing is play in the gears? that is what it feels like. if the truck is slowing down (and engine braking to some degree) and i hit the gas again it always makes a snapping/clunking sound. there is definitely slack somewhere.

Silly question but did you check the trans mount?

Aside from that, gm trucks/suv's are nutorious for drivetrain clunks. You should have herd our suburban when you put it in reverse, it was scary. My dad maintains 100+ of these, they all make strange noises. However, the hesitation in shifts is the bad part, my monte did that before it went out, just like your decribing. Hangs a a weird rpm not really wanting to go, then BAM, it goes into a gear. Maybe call mike ridings and see if he knows a simple solution, or just to pick his brain. Hes a great guy and does awesome work.

yea i am aware that some clunking is normal. This trans could go another 100k miles for all i know. but that being said its really getting on my nerves lately. My dad drives it and he thinks its fine, he doesnt even hear what i am talking about (but he is deaf in 1 ear).

My old truck (2WD) with a 700r4 didnt do any of this at 200,000 miles. that trans always shifted just at the right moment, perfectly smooth, no noises, nothing weird. And it always reacted when i sent the signal. It spoiled me i guess.

I dont think its the trans mount but ill check anyway.
