  • What rear end to buy?

I won't be buying until probably the august timeframe but would like some ideas and prices so I know where I stand. I've paid off all the work currently being done on my car so I will be able to get an early start towards saving for a new rear end.. I want to retain my ABS/TCS and would like to stick with the 3:73 gears and want a direct swap.. Any sponsors offer a replacement? For some reason on NONE of my computers can I see the sponsor list.

When I get a rear built for my car, this is who I have decided to go with....this guy is top notch and stands behind what he does.....plus his prices are very good.

This is actually the rear end I had in mind, but I'll have to see if they offer a 4 channel.. Right now looks like they only offer a 3 channel..

One thing to keep in mind, if you don't already know....is to make sure that you get taper bearings for the axles......Midwest comes standard with taper bearings....Moser give you straight bearings standard, you have to pay extra for the taper bearings. If you street drive the car alot on straight bearings, you will replace them often....they cannot take the side loads from cornering like a taper bearing can.

Moser makes a nice rear too, but they really get you with all the extras that comes standard on Midwest's unit. Plus Moser has a track record of setting up third members very poorly.

Yeah I really like this rear.. I've been considering the ABS delete kit and removing TCS all together.. I have time to ponder.

Yeah, I have some time too I wanted to get one this year but with a wedding and honeymoon to pay for, oh and I have to buy a truck soon... the rear is gonna have to wait for awhile. Damn it, I hate it when life gets in the way of hotrodding.

Well some things are more important than hotrodding, mind you very few, but there are some.. I would say marraige and honeymoon fall into the very few category..

Here's a 9" with abs/tcs, will have to investigate further.. 3rd one down..

Think I would need to "special order" something like that.

How quick do you plan on going? Since you have an automatic, I would suggest going with a 12 bolt unless you plan on single digit ETs. A 9" seems like a bit of overkill in an auto that may not see anything but 10's

My goal is a 10 second street car.. I would rather have overkill than gears laying on the track.. So both options remain open to me..

edit: and you know how it goes, I make 10's, then I want 9's..lol

I'm in the same boat as you, except I have the wonderful rear end destroying T56. I'm going with an S60 built by DTS because I've had good luck in the past with their work. It's a pretty good deal as well, $2450 for a 4 channel setup with 35 spline axles, posi, and 4.10 gears. They say it'll handle 975 HP which is far more than I'll ever have, lol.
